How Sex And The City Permanently Damaged Sarah Jessica Parker's Body

Sarah Jessica Parker has been a showstopper in Hollywood for decades. While her work has ranged from things like "Footloose" (yeah, she was in that movie!) to "Hocus Pocus" and its sequel, she'll forever be best known as Carrie Bradshaw. Between the multiple films, the spinoff, and the seven years she spent on the original series, "Sex and the City" has been a huge part of Parker's career. That isn't to say that she is Carrie, however.

Cynthia Nixon told Vogue that Parker is the opposite of her "SATC" counterpart in many ways. "Sarah has a million obligations, personal and professional, and she gets an A+ on all of them," Nixon told the outlet. "Carrie doesn't have a lot of responsibilities, and she doesn't always make the best decisions. When we're shooting a restaurant scene, Sarah won't order a salad or a steak; she'll be like, 'too sensible for Carrie.' She'll order escargots instead." Given her dedication to the beloved role through all these years, there have been bound to be parts of herself she's had to sacrifice. So what happened in "SATC" that irrevocably damaged Parker?

Carrie's devotion to fashion led to Parker's pain

In 2013, Sarah Jessica Parker told Net-a-Porter that her feet have baffled doctors (via USA Today). "I went to a foot doctor and he said, 'Your foot does things it shouldn't be able to do,'" she explained to the outlet. "'That bone there... You've created that bone. It doesn't belong there.'" The problem became so bad that the petite actor (she's just over 5' 2") had to start wearing flats instead of heels, she added. She told Net-a-Porter at the time that for the run of "Sex and the City" she always wore heels, she even ran in them while working 18-hour shooting days.

Columbus Foot explains that Parker's problem is known as "pump bump" or Haglund's deformity. Folks with this condition generally have a dull soreness along their heel which is aggravated by footwear like high heels, the site added. So for all those years that Carrie Bradshaw was running around in her heels and setting the latest trends, she was also irreversibly damaging her feet too. We suppose the old saying "pain is beauty" has to apply here?

Parker is all about embracing her natural beauty

Sarah Jessica Parker isn't running around in stilettos every day anymore — she's also opting for more comfortable lifestyle changes. The actor, who is 57, is tired of having to do things for the sake of some archaic notion of feminine beauty. More specifically, she's over people telling her she's brave for having gray hair, the actor told Allure. "I just don't understand why I'm supposed to be spending that much time thinking about it," she told the outlet. "It's not that I'm purposefully dismissive or delusional. But I don't really ponder it. There's been far more peripheral chatter about my time spent on earth than I've spent thinking about it myself."

Parker further told Bustle she will never get corrective surgery or intervention against natural aging, and has even partnered with affordable skincare products like RoC which she uses to keep her skin healthy and clear (via Prevention). After all the years of being over-the-top fabulous as Carrie Bradshaw, Parker deserves to feel secure in her own beauty. Beauty is ageless!
