Celebs Who Can't Stand Olivia Wilde

Apparently, dating Harry Styles is a cause for controversy. At least, this became true for director Olivia Wilde, who began dating the musician after they met on the set of her film "Don't Worry Darling" in September 2020, per Us Weekly. It became very apparent that they were dating when Wilde and Styles held hands at a wedding in January 2021, and the rest has seemed, at least from their vantage-point, like a love story. However, to Styles' massive fanbase, this was a travesty.

Author Sacha Judd gave a compelling take on this hatred in a piece for Letterboxd, pointing out that Styles' history of romantic relationships has been riddled by fan hatred for the woman he's with. Judd pointed out the contradictions behind this venom based on Styles' demographic of fans. "Maintaining their ongoing hate campaign against Wilde puts stans in what should be some awkward spots, given the demographics of Styles' fandom (female, progressive, queer)," Judd wrote. While the attitudes appear to be in conflict, the online censure of Wilde doesn't cease.

Even Styles himself pointed this out in an interview with Rolling Stone from August 2022. "Can you imagine going on a second date with someone and being like, 'Okay, there's this corner of the thing, and they're going to say this, and it's going to be really crazy, and they're going to be really mean, and it's not real... But anyway, what do you want to eat?'" Styles said. As it turns out, however, it's not just Styles' fans who have a problem with Wilde.

Jordan Peterson cried after Olivia Wilde's comments

Olivia Wilde rocked the boat when she explained Chris Pine's character in "Don't Worry Darling." She spoke with Maggie Gyllenhaal for Interview magazine in September 2022 and explained that Frank, the leader of the traditional community, was based on the Canadian philosopher Jordan Peterson. "We based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community," Wilde said, explaining that incels are commonly white men "who believe they are entitled to sex from women." Wilde said that this group feels disenfranchised by feminism. "This guy Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimizes certain aspects of their movement because he's a former professor ... so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously."

Peterson responded to Wilde's comments when he sat down on "Piers Morgan Uncensored," where he was asked if he was a hero to this community of men. "Sure, why not," Peterson replied. Peterson began crying during the interview and said, "God, you know. It's very difficult to understand how demoralized people are, and certainly many young men are in that category." Peterson said that women should demand more from their men and that being "picky" wasn't a bad thing, but he said that he wanted to provide solace to a lonely community. Peterson also joked that he watched the preview for "Don't Worry Darling." "I thought, 'I would go see that movie probably,'" he said. "And perhaps I will. [Her comments] didn't really bother me."

Megyn Kelly says 'screw' Olivia Wilde

Media personality Megyn Kelly responded to Olivia Wilde's comments about Jordan Peterson and Wilde's directorial decision to base her antagonist in "Don't Worry Darling" on Peterson. On "The Megyn Kelly Show" in September 2022, Kelly addressed Wilde's claims from Interview magazine that Peterson was an "insane" man leading incels. For reference, Merriam-Webster defines the term "incel" as "a person (usually a man) who regards himself or herself as being involuntarily celibate."

Kelly began by addressing suicide rates, which, in 2019, revealed that 80% of deaths by suicide were by men. She spoke to the issue of male silence around mental health problems because of social stigma and conditioning. "When they do try to talk about [mental health problems] and like Jordan Peterson ... or anybody else speaking out about these issues, they get attacked," Wilde said. "They get featured in an Olivia Wilde movie as some sort of demon." Kelly didn't hold anything back. "So screw her," she said of Wilde.

Kelly argued that the #MeToo movement was founded to stop men from imposing sexual favors as a necessity for advancement in the workplace. She claimed that Wilde was taking the momentum too far and making all men enemies. "[The #MeToo movement] was never meant to bastardize men writ large," Kelly added. "That's what people like her are doing." Clearly, Kelly didn't agree with Wilde's approach in "Don't Worry Darling."

Jason Sudeikis was left 'heartbroken'

Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis split in November 2020 after meeting in 2011 at a "Saturday Night Live" party, according to People. They had been engaged for seven years and share two children, Otis and Daisy. In January 2021, after Wilde and Harry Styles were spotted holding hands, a source told People that Sudeikis was "absolutely heartbroken about the split."

As time went on, Sudeikis shared more, admitting to GQ in July 2021 that he didn't completely understand the demise of the relationship, especially the narrative that Wilde and Styles' relationship overlapped with theirs. "I'll have a better understanding of why in a year," Sudeikis said, "and an even better one in two, and an even greater one in five." But he did say that he was trying to learn something from it. "You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it."

Wilde has vehemently denied rumors that she was still dating Sudeikis when she began a relationship with Styles. "Our relationship was over long before I met Harry," she told Vanity Fair in September 2022, and pointed out that co-parenting was their primary focus. She also addressed the super awkward moment at CinemaCon in April 2022, where she was served papers on stage. "So many people were shocked on my behalf," Wilde said. "Unfortunately, I wasn't that shocked. There's a reason that I didn't stay in that relationship." Dang!

Why is Florence Pugh so quiet on social media?

There's been loads of drama around Florence Pugh's relationship with Olivia Wilde after working together on "Don't Worry Darling." Insiders told Vulture that Wilde and Pugh had a blow-up on set because Wilde, allegedly, was distracted by her new relationship with Harry Styles, the male lead in the film. Conversely, 40 production and crew members issued a statement to People saying that there was no animosity during filming.

Part of the fodder for the drama around Wilde and Pugh is that the latter has been reticent to post much about "Don't Worry Darling" on social media. Granted, she did post a gushing tribute on Instagram on September 7, 2022, but didn't directly speak to Wilde as a director and actor in the film. "Why you ghosting Olivia? We need to know! We deserve to know," one fan questioned. "She all but said thanks to whoever got us here it for sure wasn't our director, " another added.

While Pugh has been pretty silent on the subject, Wilde has addressed some of the drama. "Florence is one of the most in-demand actresses in the universe," Wilde told Vanity Fair. "She's on set on 'Dune.' I gather that some people expect for her to be engaging more on social media. I didn't hire her to post. I hired her to act. She fulfilled every single expectation I had of her. That's all that matters to me." So as far as Wilde is concerned, things are perfect between the two women.

Shia LaBeouf says he wasn't fired

Olivia Wilde and Shia LaBeouf faced an intense showdown because of "Don't Worry Darling." LaBeouf was originally cast as the male lead, Jack, who was later played by Harry Styles. LaBeouf sent Variety text exchanges between himself and Wilde after he had expressed the desire to quit the film due to a lack of rehearsal time. On August 17, LaBeouf quit the movie. Two days later, Wilde sent him a video asking him to reconsider. "You know, I think this might be a bit of a wake-up call for Miss Flo, and I want to know if you're open to giving this a shot with me, with us," Wilde said.

However, Wilde told Variety that she let LaBeouf go. "His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions," she said. "He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy." After this, LaBeouf shot back with an email and sent a copy to Variety. "Firing me never took place, Olivia," he wrote. "I fully understand the attractiveness of pushing that story because of the current social landscape, the social currency that brings."

After this, Wilde spoke with Vanity Fair in October 2022, "This issue is so much more nuanced than can be explained in private texts released out of context. All I'll say is he was replaced ... I wish him the best in his recovery." So, clearly it's a muddled affair between the two.

Candace Owens went after Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde and Candace Owens had it out on Twitter because of Harry Styles. In November 2020, Styles graced the cover of Vogue wearing a dress. Owens wasn't having it. "There is no society that can survive without strong men ... Bring back manly men," Owens tweeted in response to Styles' Vogue spread. And at this point, Wilde wasn't having it. "You're pathetic," Wilde responded to Owens.

This wasn't the end of Owens' commentary on Wilde. On her podcast on September 14, 2022, called "Olivia Wilde Is Not A Stable Human Being," Owens began by criticizing Wilde for wearing clothing that said "Feminist." Later, Owens spoke about Shia LaBeouf's drama around "Don't Worry Darling" and said, "she dumped him because she's feminist AF. I mean, I really think that that illustrates her toxicity." Then Owens brought up the rumors about a rift between Wilde and Florence Pugh. "Apparently this feminist AF person can't even have a productive and respectful relationship with this person that she has cast in her film." Owens said it didn't "sound very feminist to [her]."

Lastly, Owens went after Wilde's relationship with Styles and claimed that their age gap signified a demise. "She to me seems to be a woman that is spiraling," Owens added. While Wilde fans might be outraged by these statements, Owens herself came under fire shortly after for wearing a "White Lives Matter" shirt with Kanye West, per Newsweek, so she's likely got her hands full with backlash of her own.
