Lucy Hale Talks 'Me Too' Movement Following Post About Possible Sexual Assault

The Life Sentence star is speaking out about sexual misconduct.

Speaking with People magazine on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, Lucy Hale opened up about the #MeToo movement currently rocking the country and revealed that she thinks it's been "awesome" to see women's sexual assault stories being heard.

"I feel grateful to have people that I look up to that are speaking up about things," Hale explained. "Not just women — I think men have sometimes suffered the same way that women have. And as long as a conversation is going or a conversation has started, which it has, that's the best thing you could ever ask for because that makes people feel not alone."

She added, "I think if powerful people can make a difference by speaking up, which they are, that will trickle down hopefully."

Hale continued, "My whole thing is I never want to be someone who makes it all shiny and rainbows all the time, because it's not," noting, "No one ever feels like that 24/7."

Hale recently commented on sexual assault online via posts on Instagram and Twitter that have since been deleted. As Nicki Swift previously reported, in the posts, Hale implied that she'd been a victim of sexual assault. "I never understood sexual assault until tonight," she wrote. "I always sympathized, but never felt the pain of it until right now."

Regarding her online message, Hale told Us Weekly, "To keep it somewhat vague... I think along with a lot of other people we've all had our experiences like that and until it's happened to you, you kind of don't really understand how it can affect you and everyone around you and I just feel very honored to be around a lot of powerful women that are speaking up about it and I think that's where the change starts is when people start talking because you never know who's listening or whose life you can impact."

When asked if it was difficult to speak with her fans about her recent experience, Hale responded, "No because I think anytime I talk about something it comes from a real place of truth and comes straight from the heart."

While we wait to see if Hale addresses the incident that sparked her shocking social media posts, read all about the untold truth of the show that made her a household name, Pretty Little Liars.
