Hailey Bieber's Life And Career Through The Years

Hailey Bieber is one of the most famous women in the world. With over 48 million followers on Instagram, the model has fans watching her every move. Though much of her fame is by way of her husband Justin Bieber, Hailey has earned a spot on the A-list in her own right through her modeling career, as well as her famous family members.

Hailey, who's in her mid-20s, might have grown up in a famous family, but her life was relatively ordinary as a child. The model didn't grow up in California, and she wasn't bred to follow in the footsteps of her father, actor Stephen Baldwin. Instead, Hailey chose her career path according to her own interests and talents.

What a life raised by a famous parent did do, though, was prepare her for the life she has now. From homeschooling to jet-setting, this is Hailey Bieber's life and career through the years.

Hailey Bieber trained as a ballerina

Though Hailey Bieber works as a model now, that was not her career path as a child. While being homeschooled in Arizona and New York, Bieber trained as a ballerina. Per Vogue India, a foot injury forced her to resign from her life in ballet, and she turned to modeling instead.

Bieber, whose maiden name is Baldwin, comes from a very famous family. The dancer-turned-model is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and the niece of the even more famous actor Alec Baldwin. Despite being born into a famous family, she never let it affect her. "I don't really think I was ever famous ... Of course, I knew my father was an actor and he was famous to an extent ... I got to grow up and get my driver's license and be really normal until the past three years of my life," she noted in a 2020 interview with the fashion magazine.

Still, though, Bieber had experiences that most people only dream of. Thanks to her uncle Alec, when she was 13 years old, Bieber was on an episode of "Saturday Night Live." The model detailed the moment while on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," but downplayed her involvement. "I kind of just went on there with Alec and introduced the Jonas Brothers," she said. Bieber realizes that her surname has helped her career, but she still tries to work for her accomplishments. As she told Grazia, "I want to do everything on my own, without my name being a factor."

She started her career with Ford Models

Hailey Bieber's modeling career began when she signed with Ford Models, and soon after she appeared in various magazines, in brand campaigns, and on the runway, but she had to convince her parents to let her move to New York City to pursue her career. "If I book a job where I can afford it, my own rent for the whole year, you have to let me move out," she told her parents, as she recounted while on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." Bieber booked a job and the rest is history.

Prior to modeling, Bieber lived a relatively normal life. "The way they raised us was so far removed from Hollywood that we didn't really bring any aspects of the industry into our home," she told Vogue Arabia. She continued, "I got to have a normal childhood and teenage years." Because of her career, though, Bieber's life eventually looked a little different than most. "There are some 'normal' things I never did — like go to college — but I do think I was able to learn how to have a schedule, be on time, and be responsible, all because I started working at 17. Those are skills that most people don't start learning until later in life. I think I grew up quicker than most," she said.

After being featured in some prominent magazines, Bieber signed with IMG Models in 2016, per Women's Wear Daily, making her even more prominent in the modeling world.

Hailey Bieber dated her husband when she was a teenager

Hailey Bieber's life has been a whirlwind for many years, and much of it is thanks to her high-profile marriage to pop singer and former teen idol Justin Bieber. The two first met in 2009 through Stephen Baldwin, Hailey's father, and in 2015, the two were spotted kissing on New Year's Eve, sparking dating rumors (via Us Weekly).

The couple dated for a couple of months, and after their split, Justin reunited with his former flame Selena Gomez, whom he had dated for years as a teenager. But after a short time back together, Justin and Gomez broke up, leading him back to his now wife. As Hailey told Elle, "We were friends first for a really long time before there was anything romantic. But we always knew that we were aligned on what we wanted in our future. We had talked about wanting to be married young and having a family young and building a life. Even before we knew we wanted to be with each other."

Dating Justin wasn't always easy for Hailey, though, particularly because of his and Gomez's fans. Hailey shared that she received lots of online hate for many years due to her relationship, as many fans believed she was the reason Justin and Gomez split. In 2022, Hailey went on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast to set the record straight. "I can say period point blank I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody," she said.

She attended the Met Gala with Shawn Mendes

Amidst the assumed relationship drama between Hailey Bieber, Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez, another string was spooled into the web when Hailey began dating singer Shawn Mendes. Hailey and the singer first sparked rumors in 2017 when she was seen at a Halloween party with Mendes, per Us Weekly. Rumors went even further ablaze when Hailey and Mendes attended the Met Gala together later that year. Fans of both took their tandem attendance as a relationship confirmation, though neither confirmed at the time.

Looking back on it, Mendes confirmed that they were together, but didn't give much detail. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the singer said, "I don't even wanna put a title on it. I think it was more of a zone of limbo." He did note how great of a person Bieber is, though. "She's still one of the f***ing coolest people ever — she's not just a beautiful person visually, but she's one of the most beautiful hearts I've ever met."

Other men seem to think the same thing. Aside from dating Justin, Hailey has been linked to other men romantically such as YouTube star Cameron Dallas and NBA player Jordan Clarkson. Another man she is rumored to have dated is rapper Drake. Speculation that the two were dating casually arose in 2016, though neither camp ever confirmed.

Hailey Bieber hosted a television show

Modeling isn't Hailey Bieber's only talent. She's also proven that she has hosting abilities, too, as seen on "Drop the Mic," a TBS competition series she co-hosted alongside Method Man. Around the same time, Bieber made a cameo appearance in the highly anticipated film "Oceans Eight." The film, which partially takes place at the Met Gala, featured some real models and celebrities while at the event.

"For me, it was the feeling of being on such a big production and a big set ... it made me definitely catch the bug," Bieber told ET in an interview about her time filming the movie. Although she hasn't done much acting aside from cameos — she also appeared as herself in an episode of "Dave," – Bieber has starred in or been featured in several music videos, most of which were for songs written by or featuring her husband Justin Bieber. Some include "Popstar" by DJ Khaled featuring Drake and "10,000 Hours" by Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber.

Hailey has also long been prolific on YouTube. She uses her channel to dish out beauty tips share more about herself, and invite guests into her bathroom to eat and chat with each other. Guests have included Kendall Jenner, Addison Rae, and Lil Dicky.

She got engaged and had multiple weddings

In 2018, Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber got engaged. "I am so in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you and loving you patiently and kindly ... You are the love of my life Hailey Baldwin and I wouldn't want to spend it with anybody else," Justin said in an Instagram post announcing their engagement. The couple was clearly ready to walk down the aisle, and just months after their engagement they legally wed in a New York City courthouse, per People. That was not the last of their weddings, though.

In 2019, the two had an official wedding ceremony in South Carolina where they were surrounded by their family and friends. Per Vogue, Hailey wore a custom gown designed by late designer Virgil Abloh, and her veil read "TILL DEATH DO US PART." To commemorate the day, Hailey simply wrote, "last Monday was the most special day of my life" in an Instagram post, showing off her stunning gown.

Another special moment came at the end of the night. As was customary at Justin's concerts in the early 2010s, the singer would choose a girl from the crowd to serenade. He'd bring her on stage, give her flowers, and sing his hit "One Less Lonely Girl." At their wedding, guests noted that Hailey had never been sung to, so the bride sat on stage while her husband crooned the famed song.

Hailey Bieber moved to Canada

After their wedding in 2018, Justin and Hailey Bieber moved back to Justin's home country of Canada. The move was reportedly due to Justin's desire to escape from the pressure of Los Angeles for a more simple life with Hailey. The model confirmed that she and Justin had indeed moved in a "73 Questions" interview with Vogue. When asked where she's been lately, she said, "I have been at home in Canada." Despite making Canada their home base, the two still have properties all over North America. Some of the houses Justin has owned by himself include a Calabasas mansion and a penthouse in Beverly Hills, per Rethinking the Future.

In 2020, the pop star and his wife purchased a 2.5-acre property in Beverly Hills for $25.8 million, and a year later sold another Beverly Hills property for just under $8 million. Although both homes sound spacious, they pale in comparison to the space the couple has at their 101-acre lakeside property in Canada, which they purchased for a reported $5 million.

The Biebers clearly enjoy their properties — they shared with Vogue that they are both homebodies, and that helps their marriage. As Hailey told the outlet while posing for her first cover, which she shot with her husband, "We're committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes. That's how I look at it. At the end of the day, too, he's my best friend. I never get sick of him."

Hailey Bieber is the face of almost everything

If you aren't familiar with Hailey Bieber for her relationship with Justin Bieber, you are probably familiar with her from seeing her in nearly every ad campaign. Though she is busy on the runway, most of Bieber's modeling work comes from her brand deals. In 2018, Bieber became one of the faces of Tommy Hilfiger, both starring in ad campaigns and walking the runway. "I just try to be who I am out in public with everybody as I am behind closed doors. I would be wanting to give the same advice to somebody on Instagram that I would be to someone at a table," Bieber told Vogue when asked about her appeal to Hilfiger's customer base.

Another one of Bieber's major brand partnerships was with makeup company bareMinerals. The model is passionate about skincare herself, and she shared via a press release (as reported by Teen Vogue), how fitting the deal was. "I'm excited that my partnership with bareMinerals allows me to celebrate a world I already embrace every day," she said.

In 2021 and 2022, Bieber scored even more major brand deals. Within a year, she modeled for major fashion houses Miu Miu and Saint Laurent, and she became the face of iconic jeweler Tiffany & Co. "I have special memories of the women I admire wearing Tiffany & Co. jewelry. It's a real honor to join that legacy as the face of the T Collection," she shared in a press release, as reported by Grazia.

She started her own skincare line

There's no denying that Hailey Bieber's skin is absolutely glowing. She has some of the best skin in Hollywood, and it's because she takes her regimen very seriously. The model uses her TikTok account to show how she cares for her face, and even popularized the "glazed donut" look before getting ready for bed. "I want to give off the vibe of a glazed donut," she explained on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" of her nighttime skincare routine. "Edible, dewy, yummy, delicious, glazed," she added.

Bieber combined her love for skincare with her entrepreneurial spirit and created her own line of products called Rhode after her middle name. "Over the last almost ten years of working in this industry, I felt like I was really able to develop my beauty philosophy. And I got to a point where I was like, 'I want to make a curated, edited line of essentials, like my go-to things that can work for everyone,'" she said about founding Rhode Skin. The line includes fewer than 10 products, but the reviews are favorable, and the Peptide Lip Treatment won a 2022 Allure Best of Beauty Award.

With all the success from Rhode Skin, Bieber is helping others. She started the Rhode Futures Foundation, which is dedicated to helping 1,000 women by 2023 by working in tandem with three established organizations: Accion Opportunity Fund, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and the LIFT Family Goal Fund.

Hailey Bieber has had some health issues

2022 was a precarious year health-wise for both Hailey and Justin Bieber. The two each had their own health scares, first in March when Hailey was taken to the hospital after suffering stroke-like symptoms. After noticing something was amiss, Justin asked Hailey if she was okay. "When I went to respond, I couldn't speak. The right side of my face started drooping. I couldn't get a sentence out," she said on her YouTube channel of the scare. A medic attended to Hailey as soon as possible, and after an evaluation at the hospital, she was diagnosed with a blood clot. Justin shared an update on Hailey's health while on tour. "She's okay. She's good, she's strong ... It's been really scary. But I know for a fact that God has her in the palm of his hands, and that's a good thing."

Hailey recovered from the blood clot just in time for Justin to suffer his own emergency. In June 2022, the singer took to Instagram to update fans on his health. Justin was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which "occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of your ears," per the Mayo Clinic. The diagnosis forced Justin to cancel the remainder of his tour, as reported by Healthline.

Despite the scares, Hailey and Justin are stronger than ever. As told by People, a source close to the couple said, "Hailey has been so supportive of Justin, just like he supported her with her health issues. They're unbreakable."
