Inside Dove Cameron And Sofia Carson's Friendship

Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson were quickly thrust into stardom after their stints on the Disney Channel, particularly in the "Descendants" film trilogy, in which they starred together. The two first met and bonded during the films, growing closer with each movie. In the franchise, Cameron played bad gal Mal, while Carson played her equally notorious best friend, Evie. The characters were daughters of Disney villains Maleficent and the Evil Queen, per Us Weekly. Over six years of filming the series, the two actors reportedly developed a deep friendship, sharing unforgettable moments together during numerous cast interviews. They also bonded with other cast mates on set, including the late Cameron Boyce

"The whole cast has become like a family," Carson shared in an interview with Access Hollywood back in 2017. "When you share so much time together and just a beautiful experience, you guys are just kind of bonded." While the "Descendants" franchise appears to be over, Cameron and Carson's bond certainly isn't. Here's a closer look inside the pair's friendship.

Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson supported each other through the Descendants series

Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson played best friends on screen, and they seemingly developed a tight bond off-screen as well. Cameron herself faced some pretty tough times in her life and reportedly struggled while on set as well. According to JustJared Jr., the actor found comfort in director Kenny Ortega, as well as co-star and then-boyfriend Thomas Doherty. However, the actress admitted that Carson was someone who knows how to read her very well. "Sofia ... can always tell when I'm in a bad mood," Cameron explained in an interview (via JustJared Jr.). "I can tell as soon as she walks into the trailer if she's having a bad day," Carson chimed in.

The friends also revealed to Access Hollywood that they were able to spend more time alone together during their last days filming "Descendants 3." Cameron and Carson laid down on set and chatted about their journey during the course of the franchise. "We were just kind of laying on the floor, and reminiscing on the last four or five years and the incredible journey that it's all been," Carson added.

The two friends reconnected at a gala in honor of Cameron Boyce

Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson have been busy with other projects since working on "Descendants 3" together. Cameron has been focusing on her music over the last few months, while Carson recently filmed the Netflix flick "Purple Hearts." However, the two were able to reconnect in June 2022 at a fundraising gala in honor of their late friend and co-star, Cameron Boyce, who passed away in 2019 from epilepsy. According to J-14, the gala was an opportunity to fundraise for the Cameron Boyce Foundation's continued fight against epilepsy and to honor Boyce's memory.

The event also brought some of the Disney Channel family together, including Cameron, Carson, Kenny Ortega, Debby Ryan, and many others. Carson gushed to Entertainment Tonight about seeing Cameron at the event, as the pair hadn't seen each other in a while. "It was really nice to kind of reconnect," she shared. "I am so proud of her and all that she's doing, so it was nice." It's good to see that the two are keeping in touch, even in the midst of their hectic lives.
