Who Is Austin Butler's Sister, Ashley?

Austin Butler has undergone quite a transformation since he first appeared on television screens in the early 2000s. The California native went from charming Disney viewers on "Hannah Montana" to being a full-on heartthrob thanks to the recent release of Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis." His turn as the "Love Me Tender" crooner has earned Butler a Golden Globe nomination for best actor, and his date for the big occasion apparently isn't going to be his superstar girlfriend, Kaia Gerber.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the 31-year-old is taking his older sister, Ashley Lucas (née Butler), to the red carpet event on January 10. As Butler told the outlet, "she's my one and only sister, so it'll be nice to be with her." The siblings appear very close — the "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" actor frequently appears on Lucas' Instagram account. However, Butler recently revealed in an interview with Janelle Monáe for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series that he actually went three whole years without seeing Lucas and his family while filming "Elvis." As he explained to Monáe, "During 'Elvis,' I didn't see my family for about three years. I was prepping with Baz, and then I went to Australia. I had months where I wouldn't talk to anybody."

Despite this major setback, it's clear from Butler's Golden Globes invitation that his relationship with his sister is stronger than ever.

Ashley is a supportive sister

Limited information is available about Austin Butler's sister, Ashley Lucas. Hollywood Life reports that Lucas was born in 1986, making her five years older than Butler. According to the outlet, Lucas actually starred alongside her younger brother in "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide" as a background actor, though it seems like she left her acting days in the past. She doesn't appear to have any other entertainment credits attributed to her name, though she's been hugely supportive of Butler's burgeoning career.

As evidenced on her Instagram page, Lucas gushes over the "Carrie Diaries" actor all the time. She shared a sweet snap of the two of them on the red carpet for the "Elvis" premiere alongside a raving caption. "I am so incredibly proud of my little brother and his dedication to his craft ... Y'all are gonna be blown away!" When Butler starred in "The Ice Man Cometh" on Broadway in 2018, Lucas was by his side then, too.

In another touching social media post, Austin's sister shared a picture of the two of them alongside the actor's ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, and their father, David Butler. In the caption, Lucas said, "I haven't been able to stop thinking about last night. Austin blew me away! The time he put in to prepare for this part is so admirable ... I seriously can't say enough about how incredible he is." She added that their mother, Lori Butler, — who sadly passed away in 2014 — "would be so proud" of Austin.

Ashley married Anthony Lucas in 2018

Austin Butler's older sister, Ashley Lucas, married her husband Anthony in 2018, and Butler was by her side on the big day. The "Elvis" star attended the nuptials with Vanessa Hudgens, who apparently shared a close relationship with Ashley prior to Hudgens' split from Butler. On Ashley's Instagram page, Hudgens is seen posing next to Butler in a photo of Ashley's "Bride Tribe." In another post that Ashley uploaded for Hudgens' birthday a few months later, the two women are seen hugging and laughing at Ashley's wedding, and the caption lends some insight into how tight they used to be. "Happy 30th birthday to this beauty! Our family is better because you're a part of it. I love you girl," Ashley wrote.

Aside from providing glimpses into her marriage to Anthony and the occasional photos of Austin and their father, David Butler, Ashley doesn't reveal that much about her personal life on social media. She frequently uses her Instagram to celebrate her friends' birthdays, mark special moments in Austin's career, and emphasize how much she loves her life and her family. Perhaps when Austin and Ashley walk the red carpet at the Golden Globes, the duo will speak to the press and provide more insight into their close bond.
