RHONY: Are Alex McCord And Simon Van Kempen Still Married?
Alex McCord was one of the original cast members of "The Real Housewives of New York City" and stayed on for four seasons, per Us Weekly. During her time on the show, she was rarely seen without her husband Simon van Kempen. The native Australian was around the housewives so much, he was almost an honorary cast member. "RHONY" star Ramona Singer was often irritated by his presence and got upset when McCord brought her husband on a girls' night out.
Singer later shared that she felt bad about being snarky towards van Kempen. "I regret that I said to him when it was all girls, and he showed up, I said, 'You know what, maybe you should go down to the strip bar because it's a girls' party and you're changing the dynamics. I should have just embraced him and gone with it," she stated on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" (via Bravo).
Following Season 4, McCord and van Kempen were fired from "RHONY," Us Weekly reported. Of course, van Kempen was not going to go quietly. "We had a great four years. We don't intend for this to be the final time you'll see us on television. Everything happens for a reason. We are not happy, we're not sad. It is what it is," he told The Hollywood Reporter. It's been over a decade since "Silex" left "RHONY" and fans are curious to know if the two are still attached at the hip.
Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen moved to Australia
For those that are wondering, Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen are indeed still together. Following their four years on "The Real Housewives of New York City," the two decided to move to New South Wales, Australia with their two children Francois and Johan, per People. The move was prompted by van Kempen's plan to become a lawyer, and in 2019, he graduated from law school. McCord shared a video on Instagram of her husband receiving his diploma and wrote, "And @simonvankempen just this moment graduated from law school!! So very, very proud!"
McCord followed suit and completely changed her career as well. Formerly a graphic designer, she received a master's degree in psychology from the University of New England. Van Kempen shared on Twitter that because of the COVID-19 pandemic, McCord couldn't have a traditional graduation ceremony. However, he added, "What I do know is that nothing will stop her from accepting her PhD in person. We are so proud!" The former "RHONY" star replied, "Could not have done it without you in my corner!!!!"
It's impressive that McCord and van Kampen accomplished so much while raising two young boys, and fans may be surprised to see what they look like now.

"The Real Housewives of New York City" fans may remember Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen's two young sons during their time on the show. The former Brooklynites were super into speaking to their children in French and raising them to be cultured young men. McCord and van Kempen imparted some of their child-rearing wisdom in their joint book, "Little Kids, Big City: Tales From a Real House in New York City." McCord told People at the time, "It's not a how-to book but a collection of our experiences and what we learned from raising our children."
McCord and van Kempen must have done something right, as their sons have grown into handsome young men. It's hard to believe that little Johan is now 17 years old. "Celebrating @johanvankempen on his 17th birthday!! (we got you a lunar eclipse)," McCord shared on her Instagram. In October 2022, she shared a pic of her boys standing side by side. "Pink lights by the ocean, waves in the back. Happy 19th to @francoisvkempen !!!" she wrote.
In January, Bravo announced the lineup for "The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip" Season 4, and McCord is on the list. Fans will be happy to see her long-awaited return to reality television, and van Kempen will almost certainly make a cameo.
