Prince Philip Admitted To Hospital For Surgery
Prince Philip has been hospitalized.
On Tuesday, April 3, 2018, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital for a planned procedure, as reported by People magazine. A statement from the palace read, "His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow."
Philip, 96, had previously missed the Maundy service at St. George's Chapel on Thursday, March 29 as well as Easter services at Windsor Castle on Sunday, April 1. A source told People that Philip had been experiencing "trouble with his hip."
However, Buckingham Palace has not released details about the surgery Philip will undergo. As noted by the Washington Post, the palace will provide updates "when appropriate."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Philip retired from making scheduled public appearances back in May 2017. While Buckingham Palace noted that he "may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time," Philip was said to no longer be accepting any event invitations.
In June 2017, Philip was hospitalized in London's King Edward VII Hospital "as a precautionary measure." At the time, he was reportedly suffering from an infection "arising from a pre-existing condition."
