Why Kate Hudson Doesn't Have A Relationship With Some Of Her Siblings

Kate Hudson has had quite a successful track in Hollywood thus far. From fan-favorite films such as" How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," "Bride Wars," and "Almost Famous" to name a few, the beloved actor is showing no signs of slowing down. Her latest venture on Netflix, "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," reached 82.1 million hours watched in its opening weekend as reported by Variety.

In the film, Kate played Birdie Jay, an aloof IT girl fashionista who had just the right dose of comedic relief fans crave from the actor. "[This role] just nourished every part of me as an actor," Hudson revealed during a Life In Pictures talk at BAFTA in December 2022 (via Variety). "I just felt like I was given material that I could play with. When you have good material like that, and you have people you feel safe with, it feels like why we do it. We want to do things that go out on a limb. It doesn't happen very often."

Kate's superstardom is much of her hard work; however, success also runs in the family. Not only is her mother Goldie Hawn, who is an elite star in her own right, but Kurt Russell is also her stepdad. With the power couple by her side, Hudson is in good hands. On the outside, it appears as if Kate has it all, but the "Fool's Gold" actor wants one more thing — a relationship with some of her siblings.

Kate Hudson's relationship with her father isn't the best

Kate Hudson doesn't have a relationship with her half-siblings which is, in part, due to not having a close relationship with her biological father, Bill Hudson. Bill and Hawn welcomed two children, Kate and her brother Oliver Hudson, during their relationship. According to AmoMama, Bill reportedly divorced Goldie Hawn in 1980 due to accusations of infidelity. Hawn then went on to enter a long-standing relationship with Kurt Russell, the two had a son of their own, Wyatt Russell. Bill was married to Cindy Williams and the pair later welcomed two children, Emily and Zack, per People, before divorcing. In 2006, he also welcomed another daughter Lalania.

After their split, his co-parenting relationship with Goldie and his involvement with his children took a major hit and became non-existent. "When we split up, she never had a bad word to say about me," Bill shared with Daily Mail in June 2015. "But when Kurt [Russell] came on the scene, the narrative changed and I became the big, bad wolf. I would say to her 'Goldie, why are you trashing me and saying I'm an absent father when it's simply not the case?' and she'd laugh and go 'Oh Bill, you know it makes for a better story.'"

According to Bill, he tried to bring all of his children together. However, the musician accused Hawn of making that difficult.

Kate Hudson would like to connect with her estranged siblings

Kate Hudson, Hollywood's leading it girl, is laying her heart on the line and wants to connect with her family. The "Kung Fu Panda" actor revealed that she would like to have a relationship with her half-siblings.

"You know what I've been thinking about lately? Dad," she revealed in a January 2021 episode of the "Sibling Revelry" podcast, which she co-hosts with brother Oliver Hudson. "I've been thinking about our sisters that we don't spend any time with and our brother — brothers. We've got four siblings we don't spend any time with." The "Skeleton Key" star acknowledged that it would be nice to reconnect as they were all getting older, adding that she and Oliver "don't ever acknowledge the fact that we have four other siblings."

Kate isn't the only one that's got rekindling on the brain. Oliver revealed on "Larry King Now" in March 2018 that he and Bill were "trying" to reconnect and shared that they have "shot some texts back and forth." Undoubtedly, a bit of self-reflection may have aided in increasing the desire to reevaluate and connect. Here's hoping these public discussions will serve as an olive branch to connect the estranged families.
