The Heartbreaking Living Situation Miranda Lambert Had As A Child

Miranda Lambert is one of the biggest — and therefore richest — country music stars in the game today. The "White Liar" hitmaker has sold millions upon millions of both albums and singles over the years, which explains why Celebrity Net Worth reports she has an eye-watering net worth of a whopping $60 million. In addition to her seriously impressive back catalog of music, though, much of that cash also comes from the star's various business ventures. Far from her talents only being in the music world, Lambert has her very own clothing brand titled Idyllwind, her own Red 55 Winery brand of wine, and she's also a boutique owner, as she's the big boss at The Pink Pistol Boutique in her hometown of Lindale, Texas.

While Lambert is clearly a very savvy businesswoman today, ironically, there was a time when a downturn in business luck resulted in an extremely difficult living situation for herself, her brother Luke, and her parents. But what happened?

Miranda Lambert was once homeless

Miranda Lambert made a heartbreaking admission on ABC's "In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville" back in 2010, sharing there was a time she and her family were homeless and her parents Richard Lambert and Beverly Lambert's P.I. business went bust and they couldn't afford their home. "We were homeless. It sounds weird to say it now because we're so blessed," she recalled, sharing the harrowing ordeal happened when she was just 6 years old, adding, "The next thing you know, the banker's coming, saying, 'I need the keys.'" Thankfully, the Lambert clan's bartering skills came in handy, as they initially moved in with family, before then asking the landlord of a dilapidated property if they could live in the home if they renovated it. Though the Lamberts managed to make it a home, it sounds like the property wasn't exactly ideal in the beginning.

"Some of the windows were boarded up, and we never did get central heat. So when you had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you had to run, because it was freezing!" Miranda shared.

She also opened up about that tough time to Redbook the following year, admitting her parents had lost everything. "We fixed [the house] up as the money came little by little, one room at a time. I remember my mom tacked pictures on the walls of what it was going to look like, every little detail," she shared.

Miranda Lambert's parents struggled to put food on the table

Miranda Lambert's parents worked hard to create a stable environment for her and her brother Luke after their money dried up, as Lambert has explained some of the extremes they had to endure to stay afloat when she was a kid. "[My dad] had to dig ditches a few times for four dollars an hour because we had to eat," she shared with Redbook. "So we literally lived off our land for about two years. We had hogs and rabbits. We had a garden. Mom would be like, 'Y'all go pick out what you want tonight.'" That then inspired Lambert's big first purchase after she made it big, as she shared she splurged on a farm in Oklahoma where she could grow her own food, just like she did when she was young.

And now? Lambert's doing what she can to provide a safe space for others without a home, particularly the four-legged kind. Lambert and her mom joined forces and founded their own charity in 2009, the MuttNation foundation, which aims to help and rehome abandoned dogs.
