Lily Aldridge And Caleb Followill's Love Story Started At A Music Festival
It's been more than a decade since supermodel Lily Aldridge wed Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill, and there's no denying the couple has built an incredible life together. Just one question: Where did this love story begin?
As a refresher, Aldridge and Followill said their 'I Do's' back in 2011. Ahead of the nuptials, Aldridge told British Vogue that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and her then-boyfriend (now husband) Jason Statham, and a number of other A-listers were set to attend, in addition to both her and her hubby-to-be's famous family members. A highlight for the social calendar, for sure — though it seems the couple opted to wed in a smaller ceremony first. On May 13, a spokesperson for Followill told People that the pair had married the day before and the ceremony was a family-only affair. As for when the happy couple hosted their second, bigger celebration, those details have been kept pretty hush-hush. However, every year on May 12 or 13, Aldridge's Instagram followers are treated to snippets of at least one of their special days, so perhaps they were held one day apart.
Regardless of when each celebration took place, one thing we know for sure is that these lovebirds have stayed sweet on each other for over 11 years. Our question remains, though. How did Aldridge and Followill meet in the first place?
Cupid shot his bow at Coachella
Lily Aldridge and Caleb Followill may have married in 2011, but by the time they made it official, they'd already been together for years. In fact, as Aldridge told Tatler, the first time she set eyes on her now-husband was at Coachella in 2007.
In a Q&A video shared to her YouTube channel, Aldridge went a little deeper on the start of their love story. They'd met backstage at Coachella because the friend she'd gone to the festival with was friends with one of Followill's brothers. The two hit it off, but she had a feeling they'd cross paths again, so she left it at that and didn't offer up any contact details. After all, she was busy with her own festival priorities! "I had some moshing to do," she quipped.
Sure enough, they saw each other a second time a little while after that, and got on great ... but again, she left sans swapping numbers. After all, she had an instinct they were meant to be. The supermodel's gut feeling proved to be right. Soon after their second hangout, a mutual friend asked if they could pass along her details, and everything fell into place. "I was, like, screaming. Literally screaming ... I knew it! I knew he was going to find me," she reminisced. Talk about intuition. As Aldridge said, concluding the story, "When you know, you know."
Lily Aldridge played hard to get
Given how confident Lily Aldridge was that she and Caleb Followill would be together, it makes sense that she wasn't scared to play a little hard to get. And no, we're not just referring to her not giving him her number at first. That was just part of her game plan when it came to how, as she described it to The Edit, she "Played it cool."
As Aldridge also shared in her YouTube Q&A, despite having feelings for him already, when Followill asked if she'd join him while Kings of Leon toured Europe, she was a little hesitant. In lieu of his suggestion, she casually mentioned that she'd be busy in the U.K. around the time of the tour. "I was like, 'Oh, it's my dad's birthday, I'm gonna be in England.' And he's like, 'Oh, I'm gonna be in England.' I knew he was going to be in England. I was like, 'Oh, cool, okay, maybe I'll see you there ... I'll have to check my calendar,'" she reflected. The kicker? Her dad was never going to be in England! She later confessed to her now-husband, but something tells us he was okay with the little white lie. Today, Aldridge and Followill have been married for over a decade and share two children.
This love story certainly reads like an A-lister fairytale. This time, though, the 'Land far, far away' was in the Coachella Valley.
