Cameron Diaz Didn't Want To Get Married Until She Met Husband Benji Madden

As the old saying goes, never say never.

Over the years, actor and entrepreneur Cameron Diaz has sworn off many things. In 2014, she declared that she was done with Botox for good. Then in 2016, she announced that there was zero chance anyone would ever catch her rocking a tube top again. But was she really done with injectables and boob tubes forever?

After all, the "Charlie's Angels" star has been known to change her mind over the years. Case in point: Diaz's feelings surrounding matrimony. During a candid interview with Harpers Bazaar, the "Charlie's Angels" star revealed that she never had any intentions of getting married ... and then promptly changed her mind upon meeting her future hubby, Benji Madden. "I didn't think it was something I'd do, and I don't know if I'd have done it if I hadn't met my husband. It was a surprise," she explained.

But why the sudden change of heart? As it turns out, the answer is pretty simple.

Cameron Diaz knew Benji Madden was husband material

When you know, you know.

In 2017, while attending a panel led by GOOP founder Gwyneth Paltrow (via People) Cameron Diaz was asked why she waited until 42 to get married. "I think it's a matter of I just hadn't met my husband," she answered. "I had boyfriends before, and there's a really, really distinct difference between husbands and boyfriends," she explained. And of course, the Good Charlotte frontman was husband material!

The story goes that Diaz and Madden met at an event in 2014, and the rest is simply history. In 2015 the lucky-in-love couple tied the knot in an intimate at-home ceremony. "It was one of those things where everyone tells you, 'You just know when you know,'" she explained during an appearance on "Radio Andy." She added, "I was like, 'What does that mean? Oh, I get it. You just know when you know.' Like you're my husband." And fortunately for Diaz, the feeling was mutual.

Benji Madden fell head over heels as well

Cameron Diaz made Good Charlotte lead guitarist Benji Madden a happy man!

It's no secret that Madden has been involved in a laundry list of high-profile romances and flings with various celebs, including Holly Madison, Paris Hilton, and even Kim Kardashian. But it was Diaz who swept him off his feet.

Shortly after becoming an item, Madden couldn't help but gush about his new girlfriend. "I'm really happy right now," Madden declared during an interview with People. But don't just take his word for it. Even his sister-in-law Nicole Richie, married to his twin Joel, knew how smitten Madden was with Diaz. "I approve of anything that's going to make Benji happy," she dished during a July 2014 appearance on "Watch What Happens Live." She added, "I am a devoted sister-in-law. I'm happy for anyone who is happy, and I want everyone to be surrounded with love."

And there ya have it, folks! Never say never, indeed.
