Why Daisy Kelliher Almost Wasn't On Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Fans first met chief stew Daisy Kelliher on the hit Bravo show "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" in 2021 and other women, like Kate Chastain and Hannah Ferrier, paved the way for Kelliher's role. As of this writing, Kelliher has 37 episodes of the Bravo show under her belt, and fans have learned a lot about her over the years. So far, the yachtie has earned an impressive amount of followers on Instagram (a little north of 270K, as of this writing) and she regularly posts about loving the show, while including behind-the-scenes photos and videos from the series. In July 2022, the reality star dedicated a post to the production staff. "These guys are the people who make the show and work all year round to bring you so many laughs, and as for the audio and camera people- how they do what they do I will never know," she wrote in the heartfelt caption. "The support everyone has given me knows no bounds."

In addition to giving kudos to those behind the scenes on the show, Kelliher has also kept fans updated on the happenings of the series, including giving fans a glimpse into the upcoming season of the hit show. "Here we go again," she wrote in an Instagram post that included a photo of her in her signature bright orange polo and a teaser trailer from the new season. With all the fun and happy posts, it's hard to believe Kelliher almost didn't join the show in the first place.

Daisy Kelliher didn't agree to join show until after she lost her job

Some yachties leave a long-lasting impact after appearing on the hit show "Below Deck" and chief stew Daisy Kelliher is one of them. So, it's hard to imagine never meeting the spunky television personality, seeing as she almost didn't join the show. In an interview with the Independent, Kelliher spoke about her time on "Below Deck Sailing Yacht," revealing that she initially "wasn't interested" in starring in the reality show until the COVID-19 pandemic caused her to change her tune. "I'd lost my job during Covid, and I was pretty miserable during the lockdown, I was given this opportunity, and I thought maybe it was the right time in my life for a change. I thought, 'What's the worst that could happen?'" she explained to the outlet.

The second offer to be on the series proved to be a charm, and Kelliher literally got on board with it. "I was ready for a challenge. I was massively nervous about the consequences from what was going to happen," she explained. "But it's all turned out OK so far and you need to take these risks sometimes to reap the benefits, but I was definitely nervous." Kelliher also added that she initially had reservations about being on the show because there's such a "negative stigma" surrounding reality television.

Kelliher has become a regular fixture on the series, working with Captain Glenn and other members of the Parsifal III.

Daisy Kelliher loves her co-stars

Daisy Kelliher went from almost not appearing on "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" to having the time of her life thanks to the company that she keeps on board. One of the biggest storylines during Kelliher's time on the series has been her relationship with first officer Gary King. As viewers know, the pair have a playful banter and have kissed on occasion. Sometimes, it can be hard to mix business with pleasure, and Kelliher has found herself navigating those rough waters at times, though she insists that King and her other well-known co-star, Colin MacRae, have played a big role in how comfortable she's felt on the show. "They were my safety blanket. I was like, 'Oh, thank God they're coming back.' I was just as happy as everyone else was, if not more," she told Decider of King and MacRae. "I think we have this little core trio, under Captain Glenn, and we bounce really well off each other."

Kelliher added that King "brings very good energy" before gushing over his personality. "He's a lot of fun to be around. He's the kind of person I'd want to party with. He's good at restoring you to a good mood if you're feeling kind of down, an important quality in yachting," she shared. Even though she sang King's praises, Kelliher also added that there are still a few things that she would change about him. But hey, nobody's perfect!
