Priyanka Chopra Was In A Relationship When She Met Husband Nick Jonas

Actor and philanthropist Priyanka Chopra revealed that her relationship status was pretty complicated when she met her future husband, Jonas Brother's frontman Nick Jonas. After their very public first date that took place at the 2017 Met Gala, the couple married in a lavish two-part wedding in December 2018. But a lot of people don't know that Chopra was technically dating someone else when the two stars first crossed paths.

Of course, Chopra had cultivated a successful acting career long before she tied the knot and was reportedly linked to some of her fellow costars. For example, while filming the futuristic romance movie "Love Story 2050" in 2008, Chopra began a nearly two-year relationship with her acting counterpart, Harman Baweja. She also dated other Bollywood stars, like Shahid Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan.

The "Quantico" actor shared in a podcast interview the conflicting feelings she had when she encountered Jonas.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas crossed paths at the wrong time, at first

As Avril Lavigne once said, "Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?" At least it seems that's what Priyanka Chopra was thinking when her husband, Nick Jonas, entered her life. On March 27, comedian Dax Shepard's podcast, "Armchair Expert," released an interview with the actor, where they touched on how she met the "Jealous" singer in 2016. She divulged that apparently Kevin Jonas, Nick's brother, watched her on her TV show "Quantico," and suggested he "call her."

"[Nick] slid into my DMs on Twitter ... I was in a tumultuous relationship at the time," Chopra admitted in the interview. "We had common friends who didn't want me to be in my relationship and were like, 'Oh, [Nick is] single too. He's really not with that girl, but he is.' It was complicated on both our ends."

The actor went on to explain that she's a "serial monogamist," but didn't expose the identity of her then-significant other. After Nick DM'd her, Chopra told Shepard that she asked for his number because her team's in charge of her social media inbox. "He was like 'Yeah, yeah, you just wanted me to give me your number,'" she recalled. "I kind of did but I didn't want to admit it at the time because I was in a relationship." Well, it all definitely worked out for the best in the end because the couple seems to be in it for the long haul.

Priyanka and Nick are now better known as 'Mom and Dad'

First-time mom and dad Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, using surrogacy on January 15, 2022. The couple has kept their child relatively private, so the first time fans saw their baby was at Jonas's induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame alongside his band, The Jonas Brothers. In his speech at the ceremony, the singer joked that he couldn't wait until he could "embarrass [Malti] in front of [her] friends" by bringing her to his star on the Walk of Fame in the future.

On March 10, the couple attended the South Asian Excellence at the Oscars event in Los Angeles, as reported by People. There, Chopra gushed about their family of three and how it influenced her career as an actor and producer.

"Having [Nick's] support and my family — my in-laws are back home with the baby — just being able to have my family show up is the only way I could do what I do," she acknowledged. "My family is my greatest, greatest strength."
