Jersey Shore's Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Breaks Silence On Prison Sentence

Jersey Shore star Mike Sorrentino, who's better known as "The Situation," is speaking out.

On Friday evening, Oct. 5, 2018, the reality TV star took to Instagram to break his silence after being sentenced to prison on charges of tax fraud.

"We are very happy to put this behind us," he wrote, captioning a slideshow of photos of himself outside a federal courthouse in Newark, N.J. with fiancée Lauren Pesce and several of his longtime Jersey Shore castmates. Complete with a prayer hands emoji, Sorrentino added, "Thank you So much for all the Love & Support."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Sorrentino, 36, was sentenced to eight months in prison with two years of supervised release on Friday afternoon. He'd faced up to five years behind bars after the IRS accused him and his brother, Marc, of failing to pay taxes in 2014. Both brothers pleaded guilty to tax evasion in January of this year.

"Mike accepts the Court's judgment," the television personality's lawyer, Henry E. Klingeman, released in a statement to TMZ following his sentencing. "He is looking forward to marrying his college sweetheart, Lauren Pesce, next month and moving forward together after he serves his sentence."

For her part, Pesce, 33, has since expressed her support for her fiancé on social media. While echoing Sorrentino's recent sentiments, she wrote, "Thank you for all of your messages of love & support. We are happy to put an end to this chapter and excited to move forward in our future. We are blessed to have our health and the outpouring of support from family, friends & fans. We love you."

The engaged pair, who reportedly plan to marry in early November, were already looking toward their future together last weekend. After celebrating their upcoming nuptials at their wedding shower, the couple stated to E! News, "It was such an amazing day celebrating our love for each other with all of our closest families and friends! You felt the love in the room. We are excited to see what the future holds and can't wait to share with our family, friends and fans."
