Celeb Couples Who Found Out They Were Pregnant After They Broke Up

Throwing a baby into a relationship is hard enough when a couple is still together and happy, but breaking up and then finding out you're expecting with your ex? That's hard, especially if one or both parties in the failed romance already moved on with a new partner. These stars all welcomed babies after they broke up. Some were able to reconcile when the joy of a new baby brightened up their lives (Here's looking at you, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green), while others stayed apart, such as Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan. Some of these pregnancies actually led to the demise of a partners' new relationships while others were able to co-parent, despite the unconventional or shocking circumstances.

For better or worse, let's take a closer look at all the baby drama surrounding celeb couples who found out they were pregnant after they broke up.

Tom Brady rebounded fast, but his ex? Not so much

New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady and actress Bridget Moynahan dated for about three years before splitting in December 2006. He quickly rebounded with model and now-wife Gisele Bundchen, but by February 2007, news broke that Moynahan was more than three months pregnant with Brady's first child. The exes welcomed son Jack in August 2007. About a year later, Moynahan told Harper's Bazaar that she was heartbroken by the split. "When you're suddenly pregnant and no one is standing by your side, even if you're in your 30s, it's a hard conversation," she said. "I'm a traditional girl, and I believe in marriage, and I just always thought that's the way I'd be doing this. For a moment, it was hard for me to accept that this was the way I was going to have a family."

The situation was no picnic for Bundchen, either. In her memoir, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, Bundchen wrote about the pregnancy reveal (via E! News): "The very next day the news was everywhere, and I felt my world had been turned upside down. Needless to say, that wasn't an easy time. But it was a time that brought about so much growth." Bundchen and Brady tied the knot in 2009, and welcomed two kids of their own, while Moynahan married businessman Andrew Franklin in 2015. Thankfully, they all get along and co-parent beautifully today.

Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer's abstinence shocker

Talk about awkward. Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer were engaged and set to tie the knot in May 2015, but just days before the big day, the famous mother of the bride — former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — announced that the ceremony had been called off. Sarah said they still planned to get together on the original date to "celebrate life, in general." (Hey, let's face it, a lot of those wedding deposits were probably nonrefundable.) A month later, Bristol — an advocate for sexual abstinence — revealed on her blog that she was pregnant. Her daughter, Sailor Grace, was born in December 2015.

Bristol and Meyer waged a contentious series of custody battles, with Meyer demanding a paternity test to be able to see his daughter, according to the Daily Mail. By June 2016, Bristol and Meyer were back on good terms — such good terms that they secretly tied the knot. In May 2017, People reported that Bristol and Meyer had welcomed their second child, daughter Atlee Bay. Unfortunately, this union hit another rough patch. In February 2018, Meyer filed for divorce, and by August 2018, the Teen Mom star announced that she was "freshly divorced" from the former Marine.

Teen Mom star was in 'a dark place' with baby No. 3

The rocky relationship between Teen Mom 3 star Mackenzie Douthit McKee and husband Josh McKee was chronicled on reality TV, and according to TMZ, they were no longer living together when she found out she was pregnant with the couple's third child in 2016. That wasn't the first time this couple had split. The previous year, the tab reported that Josh had walked out and that Mackenzie claimed to have crashed her car while out searching for him.

Their relationship was so damaged, in fact, that Mackenzie told Radar Online in March 2018 that she and Josh faked their romance for Season 3. "I was in a really dark place. Then I had [our third child] Broncs [in 2016] and it got even worse. He actually left and ended up filing for divorce," she said. "I think we were separated for two months." Thankfully, Mackenzie says their dynamic has improved — at least a little. "Since then we opened up our own businesses and we got a house that's a very nice home for our kids," she told Radar. "But we're still a hot mess!"

An off-and-on engagement precedes big baby news

Laguna Beach starlet Kristin Cavallari and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler had only been together for about 10 months when People reported that he allegedly dumped her in July 2011, while she was in the midst of wedding planning. A source told the mag that Cavallari was "absolutely devastated." (She later claimed in her book that she did the dumping.) The split seemed so permanent that Us Weekly reported that they even returned their wedding gifts. Four months later, however, in November 2011, Cavallari announced that she and Cutler were engaged once again: "This time it's official."

By January 2012, Cavallari and Cutler told People that they were expecting their first child. The Very Cavallari stars welcomed a son named Camden Jack in August 2012 (about nine months after Cavallari's "official" reconciliation announcement). They tied the knot in 2013, welcomed another son named Jaxon Wyatt in 2014, and added a daughter named Saylor James to the team in 2015.

'Scott, who?' becomes the father of three

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick's relationship was rocky from the start. She and the self-described "Lord" had broken up when the former flames reportedly had a fling that resulted in Kardashian's pregnancy with their first child, a son named Mason. Kardashian admitted that the pregnancy was unplanned, telling E! (via People), "We were in the Everglades and I kept feeling nauseous and sick. I just kept thinking something wasn't right. ... I went to the doctor and he confirmed the news. I was just so shocked."

In fact, their relationship up to that point seemed so inconsequential that Kardashian claimed her mom didn't even remember who Disick was. "It took her a minute to digest [the pregnancy news]," Kardashian told People in 2009. "She didn't even know Scott was around since we broke up, so [she] was like 'Scott, who?'"

The couple reconciled (and split and reconciled and split ad nauseam) and had two more children, daughter Penelope and son Reign, before calling it quits again. As for their current status? That's anyone's guess.

Iggy Azalea was stuck in the middle of baby mama drama

NBA star Nick Young was engaged to rapper Iggy Azalea when it was revealed that his ex-girlfriend and high school sweetheart, Keonna Green, was pregnant with his child in 2016. Green was already mother to Young's son, Nick Jr. However, that second baby reveal reportedly wasn't the only reason why the Australian songstress called it quits with the basketball pro. Azalea revealed on Twitter (via Us Weekly) that she caught Young cheating with other women on security footage in the home they shared. That came after he was busted allegedly admitting to cheating on the "Fancy" MC.

Green told Us Weekly that she and Young started hooking up again in September 2015 — three months after he and Azalea got engaged. "We got caught up in the moment and it just happened," Green said. "I would be like, 'Nick, you cannot be sloppy. You need to be honest [with Azalea].' He would say, 'I don't want to hear it.' I don't know what was going on in his household, but me and Nick have lots of history. It wasn't a secret on my end. I didn't feel guilty because I was in love with a man, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only woman." At the time of that interview, Green said she and Young were not an item, but it appears this flame has been rekindled. She made her red carpet debut with Young at the NBA Awards in June 2018.

Diplo's relationship remix, featuring Katy Perry

DJ Diplo (real name Thomas Wesley Pentz Jr.) was dating pop star Katy Perry in October 2014, when headlines surfaced that his ex-girlfriend, bartender Kathryn Lockhart, was pregnant with his child, according to the New York Daily News. Diplo and Lockhart already shared a son named Lockett. A source told the tab, "She and Wes aren't together, but he's actively involved in [Lockett's] life." The insider also claimed Lockhart was likely "newly pregnant" when the rumors of Diplo's romance with Perry began making headlines in April 2014. Us Weekly reported that Diplo and Lockhart welcomed their second son, Lazer, in November 2014, with sources alleging he was spending time with his ex and their new child while still allegedly dating Perry.

Diplo and Perry called it quits in March 2015, according to Us Weekly. In a confessional with talk show host James Corden, Perry later ranked Diplo third (behind John Mayer at No. 1 and Orlando Bloom at No. 2) in his boudoir skills, to which the oh-so-classy DJ responded: "I don't even remember having sex" and "I won the bronze medal in the sex Olympics."

Hugh Grant got very busy in his fifities

Pay attention to this one, because it's going to get confusing. Affable British actor Hugh Grant welcomed a baby girl named Tabitha in October 2011. His rep confirmed to Us Weekly: "He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms." The mother was later revealed to be former restaurant hostess Tinglan Hong. In December 2012, Grant and Hong welcomed their second child, a son named Felix, despite not being together, according to The Sun. Okay, no big deal, right? Well...

In September 2012 — yes, three months before Felix's birth — Grant welcomed a son named John Mungo with Swedish television personality Anna Elisabet Eberstein, reported People, meaning Eberstein and Hong's pregnancies overlapped. According to E! News, Grant and Eberstein welcomed a daughter in 2015, another son in 2018, and then tied the knot in May 2018.

Actress Elizabeth Hurley — an ex who still calls Grant her "best friend" — had this to say about the actor's paternity tornado: "Having these kids has transformed him from a very miserable person into a ... It's an improvement. He's gone up the scale."

Friends with benefits (and a dependent)

File this hookup under pairings the world never saw coming: Actor Benicio del Toro had a fling with Kimberly Stewart, daughter of rocker Rod Stewart. Del Toro's rep told People, "Kimberly is pregnant. Benicio is the father and is very supportive. Although they are not a couple, they are looking forward to the arrival of the baby." A source told the magazine that while the Simple Life starlet and the Oscar winner weren't together at the time of her pregnancy, they allegedly had a long history: "They've been involved for years. But it's always been on and off with them, and for a very long time."

Stewart and Del Toro welcomed daughter Delilah Genoveva Stewart Del Toro in August 2011. Us Weekly reported that Del Toro was by Stewart's side in the delivery room and has been supportive and involved in Delilah's life since her birth, despite reportedly not maintaining a romantic relationship with the rock and roll heiress.

'Irreconcilable differences' may be reconcilable after all

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green married in 2010 and welcomed a son named Noah in 2012, followed by a son named Bodhi Ransom in 2014. In August 2015, E! News reported that the actress had filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences." When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star and the everly Hills, 90210 actor were spotted together a month after the filing, no one was too suspicious, considering they had two sons to co-parent, but then came the debut of what appeared to be a baby bump in April 2016!

Entertainment Tonight reported that Fox had not simply had a salty lunch before being photographed, but was, indeed, expecting her third child. She didn't initially say who the father was, but she and Green eventually reconciled. "They've been through a lot, but this makes more sense for the kids and the new baby [for them to stay together]," a source told Us Weekly during her pregnancy. Another insider told People, "During their separation, Brian always hoped Megan would change her mind about the divorce." The couple welcomed son Journey River in October 2016 and have been together ever since.
