Celebs Who Party Way Too Hard

By now, celebs should know that heavy drinking and drug use can lead to years of self destruction and repeated rehab treatment. As spelled out in headlines, Hollywood has its fair share of bad boys and girls. From Charlie Sheen to Lindsay Lohan, see which celebs have a nasty reputation for hard partying.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber has reportedly turned over a new leaf since joining the Hillsong Church, but some insiders say the "Sorry" singer still parties hard occasionally. A source told In Touch, "Justin has told close friends that he's rethinking his life and wants to 'follow a new path.' He talks about God nonstop, [but] one minute he's praying and the next minute he's partying. He's all over the place and is a nightmare to deal with."

Bieber's wild ways seemed to peak in 2014, when in January alone, TMZ reported that he was abusing sizzurp (a drink made with codeine cough syrup,) a raid revealed cookie jars full of marijuana in his Los Angeles home, he blew $75,000 at a strip club, and he got arrested for DUI.

Paris Hilton

This filthy rich heiress made her name, and fortune, off her crazy partying and deejaying. "Paris Hilton being arrested just makes her more famous," veteran publicist Michael Levine told the Associated Press in 2006. "She has devoted her entire adult life to appearing to be the princess of parties."

At the height of her fame, the Simple Life star was a fixture on television sets and at the courthouse. In 2006, she was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. She pleaded no contest and accepted a deal that included 36 months probation, a $390 fine, and an alcohol education program, reported People. In 2010, the celeb was arrested for cocaine possession. According to CBS News, she "avoided jail time by acknowledging...that she had cocaine in her purse and that she lied to police when she was arrested."

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan is the queen of partying. She's been photographed many times leaving clubs in a drunken stupor, but she became the laughing stock of the internet in 2007 when she was photographed asleep, mouth agape, in the passenger seat of a car after a night out with then-girlfriend Samantha Ronson.

In a 2013 interview with CNN's Piers Morgan Live, Lohan shed some light on her partying habits, insisting she used cocaine "maybe four or five times" in her life and has never been "a huge drinker." In addition to a conviction for cocaine use in 2007, Lohan has also been arrested for drunken driving, reckless driving, and shoplifting. She went to rehab three times.

Johnny Manziel

Once one of the NFL's most applauded players, Johnny Manziel is now on the sidelines because of hard partying. In April 2016, he allegedly caused nearly $32,000 in damage to a house he rented for a wild two-day bash, reported the The Huffington Post.

Manziel's bad behavior stretches back years. Sports Day reports he was photographed in July 2014 with a rolled up $20 bill—the kind often used to snort drugs. In February 2015, he volunteered to go to rehab for substance abuse, then resumed playing quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Manziel reportedly fell off the wagon again and again in the following months. Pictures of him losing control spread across the internet. His father, Paul Manziel, told the The Dallas Morning News, "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday." At the time of this writing, Manziel was no longer affiliated with an NFL team.

Mischa Barton

Mischa Barton became an almost overnight star on The O.C., but soon her infamy outdid her fame. She talked to People about her partying habits circa 2006 with the likes of Lohan and Richie: "I didn't know who was good and bad in Hollywood. We thought, 'Work hard, play hard.' I was living a jet-set lifestyle. There were a lot of enablers around, people to fly you around and to make it all possible. It was a train I could not get off of. When you're young, you can do it, but after a while, it's going to come crashing down on you."

Barton was busted for DUI in 2007 and went to rehab but denied it was a result of her lifestyle, telling People, "I think I was just really stressed out. I don't think any of it would have happened if I hadn't been under such enormous pressure."

In February 2017, Barton was hospitalized after claiming someone spiked one of her drinks with GHB. Yahoo reported that just weeks after the incident, Barton was spotted drinking, partying, and smoking until 3 a.m. at a bar.

Jodie Sweetin

Following her Full House fame, Jodie Sweetin had trouble adjusting to life outside of the spotlight. When she was 22, she began what would become a crippling addiction to crystal meth, which she often refers to as a period of "partying." People reported that Sweetin was hospitalized in 2005 after a night of partying, leading to her divorce from first husband, LAPD officer Shaun Holguin. She went to rehab, but her issues remained, and she checked back into rehab in 2008 after she relapsed with cocaine and alcohol.

Sweetin eventually turned her life around and got sober, telling People, "My life is so good that I'm not missing out on anything. I finally got to a point in my life where I go to bed at, like, 10:30. To me, a nice night at home is watching American Idol, reading a book and sleeping. Now, I don't think anything in the world could be better than what I have."

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus spent most of 2010 through 2016 pushing envelopes and partying hard. In December 2010, the "We Can't Stop" singer was busted on camera smoking the psychedelic (but legal) herb salvia. In January 2012, Cyrus was reportedly embarrassed after photos of her with a phallic-shaped cake for then-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's birthday leaked to TMZ. By 2013, Cyrus and Hemsworth had split, and what followed was a twerking, pot-smoking tailspin. Even pop star Demi Lovato, who'd spent time in rehab for partying way too hard when she was way too young, warned Cyrus to chill out.

Cyrus has since calmed down quite a bit, with a source telling People in August 2016 that the singer wasn't as interested in partying since reuniting with Hemsworth. "[Cyrus is] very happy... Miley is doing yoga and seems very healthy," the source said. "She rarely parties and is taking better care of herself."

Still, in January 2017, Cyrus threw a pot-themed bash for Hemsworth's birthday, but by June 2017, she swore off substances indefinitely.

Deryck Whibley

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley's hard partying nearly killed him, leaving him hospitalized and in a coma from years of nonstop touring.

He told Noisey in April 2015, "Partying like that becomes the norm, that's all you know and you don't see any way around it. He added of his band's 2011 tour, "That was the longest tour we'd ever done for one record, and it was the first time in our entire career that I wanted to finally take a break. Usually, I start writing a new record right away, but this time I just said f**k it and started a party that kinda went for a year... That cycle is really hard to break and it got me to this place."

Sum 41 guitar tech Brian Keith Diaz also weighed in on Whibley's lifestyle, "It wasn't uncommon to go weeks at a time drinking until we blacked out without a break. The first Europe trip was a blur of Jack Daniel's and vodka, s****y European cocaine, and non-stop partying."

At one point, Whibley reportedly collapsed in his home and was hospitalized and placed into a coma to help his body handle withdrawal symptoms — and he literally didn't know what had hit him when he came to. "I woke up a week later and I felt pretty good, then I figured I was in rough shape. The doctors said I was lucky to be alive and that there was still a chance I could die."

Britney Spears

Britney Spears partied hard with Hilton and Lohan in the early 2000s, and she barely came out of that period with her health in tact. In late November 2006, after splitting from husband Kevin Federline, Spears accidentally flashed her unmentionables, then issued a statement about the incident on her website: "It's been so long since I've been out on the town with friends. It's also been 2 years since I've even celebrated my birthday. Every move I make at this point has been magnified more than I expected, and I probably did take my new found freedom a little too far. Anyway, thank God for Victoria's Secrets' new underwear line! I look forward to a new year, new music and a new me."

By February 2007, Spears' partying grew so out of control that her handlers sent her to rehab in Antigua, Rolling Stone reported, but she left after just one day. When she returned to the States, Spears shaved her head, then checked back into rehab. Thankfully, by 2008, the pop princess had gotten her life back on track, and she now spends most of her free time enjoying her two sons.

Scott Disick

There is only one term to describe reality star Scott Disick's after-hours behavior: party animal! Kourtney Kardashian's ex-boyfriend and father of her three children is no stranger to drinking and night clubs. Sure, he's the undisputed king of club appearances among the Kardashian-Jenner brood, but that good time comes at a price.

Viewers of Keeping Up with the Kardashians know all too well that Disick can be a nightmare when he drinks. In a 2010 episode of their reality show, he shoved a $100 bill into a waiter's mouth for refusing to serve him more alcohol. In a 2014 episode, Kardashian called him "sloppy" drunk while dining at the Versace mansion in Miami. His hard partying has pushed him into rehab on multiple occasions—four times since 2014. His latest stint was in October 2015, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Bella Thorne

Bella Thorne admits to partying hard, but not hardcore — whatever that means — and no longer with the aforementioned Disick.

"I throw a lot of house parties, and that's how I meet these people. They come to my house party and they're like, 'Yo, I heard you're having a party...'" she told Complex. "That's how I met Scott [Disick] — he came to a house party of mine." The actress reflected on their brief fling in Cannes in early 2017. "Scott is really nice, sweet, charming. I don't drink, and he really drinks a lot. And it just ended up... I just wasn't down. I was like, 'I gotta leave.' We were [at Cannes] a day and a half before I was like, 'I'm booking my flight and leaving.' I love to go out and have fun, I love to f**king dance, but I just don't party hardcore like that and it was way too much for me. I was like, 'Woah, this is not the way I live my life, bruh.'"

How does she live her life? Per her own Instagram and Entertainment Tonight, often topless, covered in glitter, and hooking up with pals such as YouTube star Tana Mongeau.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has been focusing on wellness since being diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic pain, but prior to getting well, Gaga was, well, getting gaga.

The "Applause" singer hasn't gone into too much detail about her experiences, but she has warned fans about the dangers of Molly, a name frequently used for the drug MDNA. "It's hard to remember [when I last used Molly]... I spent a lot of time at Bonnaroo and going to a lot of festivals. I definitely wouldn't encourage it because it can be dangerous, especially if you don't know where you're getting it from," she said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2013. "So I guess I would use this opportunity to tell you to be careful with Molly."

Tara Reid

Tara Reid was touted as one of Hollywood's next "It Girls" when she starred in American Pie in 1999, but her frequent wild nights out curbed her career in a big way. Reid told Rolling Stone in 1999 (via The Huffington Post,) "When I go out to drink, I really drink. I black out sometimes. I don't know how I manage my life when I black out but I still function and just keep going."

She checked into rehab in December 2008, just a month after telling People that she didn't plan on getting into any more trouble. "Trust me: I've done enough of everything for a lifetime! I partied. I had fun. I ate and drank and dated a million guys, but I'm so happy with where I am right now," she said. "I don't need to do any of that anymore."

Despite her stint, Reid told Access Hollywood in March 2012 that her partying was "not that bad" and that she simply learned to "be more discreet" about having a good time.

However, by February 2014, she told In Touch, "I went [to rehab] by myself. I put myself there. It was the greatest decision I ever made... The hardest thing was walking through the door for the first time — finally admitting that I had a problem. I had been in such denial." She added, "Rehab saved my life...  I am clean and sober and I am excited."

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie has been open about her hard-partying during her formative years. She's admitted to abusing alcohol, cocaine, and heroin while clubbing and bouncing from party to party in her past, which she previously attributed to boredom. Despite addictions and even an arrest, Richie looks back on her memories fondly.

"It is no secret that I have, at times, taken advantage of my time on this planet. And as much as I have to look at those moments and learn from them, as we all do, it's important for me to have gratitude for that time, too. Not shame. Being ashamed of your life is not OK," Richie wrote in a Lenny Letter (via Us Weekly) in October 2017. "I realized I am actually extremely thankful I was so beastly in front of the world for a few reasons. It's so bad in people's minds that there's nothing that can embarrass me now... I also truly believe if I didn't have so many eyes on me, it would've been easier for me to slip back into my reckless behavior. I had people rooting me on and watching me at a time when I needed that."

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp partied hard in the 1990s, and it looks like his habits may be returning.

In September 1994, People reported that the Oscar nominee was arrested for criminal mischief after he trashed a hotel room with then-girlfriend Kate Moss (more on her later.)

After lying low for years during his relationship with Vanessa Paradis, Depp took up with actress Amber Heard, who he married in 2015. In 2014, a potentially prophetic source told Radar Online, "Johnny was so wild for so long and it's hard to believe that Amber has straightened him out completely. Last year he was partying with six chicks and getting turned away from bars, this year he's quietly going to dinner with Amber and you never see him do anything wrong. Johnny always seemed like he was having a great time out partying, and it wasn't just because a lot of women were around.  People are afraid that he's just stopped partying or is hiding his partying to be a good and upstanding guy for Amber. No one wants to see him go down that path again so they're hoping that Amber is keeping him in line."

Alas, Depp and Heard experienced a bitter divorce in 2016, after which he partied like a rock star again, often with actual rock stars, including Liam Gallagher and his own bandmates from Hollywood Vampires.

Kate Moss

In 2008, Moss planned a 34-hour party for her 35th birthday — one hour for every year of her life, The Guardian reported. Unfortunately for the erstwhile supermodel, Moss' celebration only lasted 18 hours before her pals cleared out, but not before several police calls were made from neighbors complaining about the noise coming from her London pad.

And that was mild for Moss. Actor Jason Donovan told the Daily Mail that he overdosed at Moss' 21st birthday party in 1993. In the book Champagne Supernovas (via the Daily Beast), author Maureen Callahan claimed actor Johnny Depp dumped Moss over her behavior, writing, "They had a massive blowup at his house in LA; she thought they had been living there together, but he thought she was crashing. He tried living with her in New York, but that lasted less than six months: As wild as Johnny may have been, even he couldn't take the partying."

Callahan also recounted Moss' 30th birthday party in 2004, writing, "Kate threw a wild party themed to F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and the Damned, and the accounts that emerged remain the stuff of legend: Kate and Naomi Campbell disappearing together for 40 minutes. Gwyneth Paltrow, scandalized, fleeing swiftly. The after party in a suite at Claridge's, with champagne and cigarette smoke and group sex in the main bedroom."

The Daily Mail examined the toll Moss' admittedly hard-partying lifestyle took on her appearance over 20 years, and the results were shocking.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen is a veteran when it comes to wild Hollywood parties and scandalous life decisions. For years, drugs were an integral part of his lifestyle. "I was banging seven-gram rocks and finishing them, because that's how I roll," he told ABC in 2011. "I have one speed. I have one gear. Go." Sheen told The Dr. Oz Show in January 2016 that his partying catalyzed negative decisions. "Manic behavior is usually in the throes of deep partying, deep substance abuse, and drinking. It doesn't really happen when I'm not doing that."

Sheen's reckless lifestyle eventually caught up with him. In late 2015, he announced he was HIV positive. Since then, the former star of Two and a Half Men has reinvented himself as an advocate for H.I.V/AIDS awareness and sexual health.

Rihanna

Rihanna loves a good time — but sometimes those good times catch up to her. In May 2012, Page Six reported that the "Umbrella" singer was hospitalized after the Met Gala for "dehydration and exhaustion," which the outlet noted was "often Hollywood code words for something more." Later the same month, Rihanna admitted on Twitter that she'd been partying so hard that she missed a flight to London.

At the time, Star magazine (via Page Six) alleged that her "party binge" was taking a toll on her health. "Rihanna loves to party but this past month she's gotten really out of control. She's been drinking almost every day and talking about smoking weed a lot too," a source said. "Everyone is telling her to slow down and think about therapy, or even rehab."

A month later, The Mirror reported that RiRi canceled a gig in London allegedly due to illness, but a source said, "She always seems to be out partying — and loves posting photographs of her nights out on Twitter. She's been ill a lot lately as well — and takes photos to prove it. Some people are beginning to get a bit worried." The site also noted that she'd been banned from a hotel in her native Barbados for smoking marijuana in her room.

Since then, the celeb seems to have gotten better about meeting her professional obligations, but her frequent and pricey strip club trips show that old habits die (and party) hard.
