Lady Gaga's Shady Super Bowl Warning To Shakira And J. Lo Explained

Lady Gaga is known for being outspoken, and she certainly doesn't mind being the center of attention, but a comment she made before the 2020 Super Bowl raised more than a few eyebrows. Mother Monster didn't mince words when performing at the Super Saturday Night show in Miami on the eve of the big game.

"I better hear no lip-syncing tomorrow!" she hollered during her set. Um, record scratch. Did Gaga just throw some subtle shade at Super Bowl LIV halftime headliners Shakira and Jennifer Lopez? Lady Gaga headlined America's Game in 2017, and she made it crystal clear that she sang live during her high-flying show. Good for Gaga, but why would she seemingly feel the need to issue a warning to her peers the night before their big moment? It's worth noting that Gaga did tack on some love to her loaded comment, shouting: "I love you Miami! I love you, J.Lo! I love you, Shakira!"

Gaga has been at the center of her fair share of celebrity drama, but was she trying to start something with J. Lo and Shakira? Let's get to the bottom of this.

Gaga may be nostalgic for the Super Bowl

Lady Gaga's loaded comment could have been a pointed dig or an innocent remark, but many are speculating that Mother Monster is just feeling nostalgic over her own Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2017. According to the New York PostGaga brought up her Super Bowl performance more than once during her Super Saturday set at Miami's Meridian at Island Gardens.

"Thank you so much for believing in me," a teary-eyed Gaga told the crowd, per the Post. "I remember when I played the halftime show and it was one of the most special, beautiful things that's ever happened to me. So, thank you." She also added, "I wish so much love and so much luck to everyone that's doing the halftime show."

But while we know Gaga was feeling wistful for her days as the halftime show superstar, that still leaves the question: did Shakira and Jennifer Lopez sing their hearts out? Or merely sync their hearts out?

Twitter thinks J-Lo and Shakira lip-synced

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira probably didn't need Lady Gaga's love and luck to nail their halftime show, which garnered rave reviews, but the issue of lip-syncing and backup tracks was a topic of conversation online. "The hips aren't lying but the lips sure are," tweeted one skeptic.

And that wasn't the only social media post that seemed to speculate on J-Lo and Shakira definitely brought their moves but not much else. Search out "lip-syncing super bowl" on Twitter and you'll find no shortage of hot takes from fans. Other fans, meanwhile, seemed to think Shakira and Lopez did sing during the performance. Some even pointed out one moment from the show where Shakira sort of half-yodeled into her microphone as proof that her mic was live and capturing her actual performance. So unless you were backstage and had first-hand knowledge of what really went on, fans will be debating this one for a long time to come.

But enough of all that: what did Gaga think?

Fear not, despite her warning the day before, Mother Monster tweeted her blessing. "@JLo and @shakira and all the special guests were so incredible!!! What a fun halftime show I danced and smiled the whole time," she said. "Such powerful sexy women!!!! On camera and off!!!!! Love you beautiful sexy talented women."

Other celebs were just as impressed with J.Lo and Shakira

Lady Gaga obviously loved what she saw onstage at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show, and she certainly wasn't alone. Other stars took to social media to praise both Shakira and Jennifer Lopez on their sizzling set.

Lopez's fiancé, former MLB player Alex Rodriguez, tweeted a video of himself dancing with the crowd during the performance and wrote, "AMAZING!! She ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED IT! Wow, that was so fun! I'm so proud of you, Jen!"

Pink, who took on the national anthem at the 2018 Super Bowl, also took to Twitter to write, "Yes! Halftime was JOY!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!! @shakira @JLo everything that's yes."

"Still recovering from that halftime show. Amazing job @jlo @shakira!" tweeted Ryan Seacrest before adding, "The choreo.... the throwback songs.... the production... Emme's surprise appearance. Incredible @jlo @shakira!"

Shakira and Lopez weren't the only ones to receive some praise. JLo's ex Marc Anthony also hopped onto social media to send a shout out to his daughter, Emme Maribel Muñiz, who stepped up to sing alongside her mom at the big game. "Emme, Daddy is so proud of you. You are my [heart] and I am forever yours," he wrote.

While the stars were obviously impressed with what they saw, it seems like Shakira and Lopez also ended on a high note after stepping off the stage.

Shakira and JLo shared some love after the show

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez didn't seem to harbor any harsh feelings towards Lady Gaga after their big Super Bowl Halftime Show performance. In fact, they seemed to be feeling nothing but love and took to Instagram to share their gratitude following the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Shakira, who happened to have more than one reason to celebrate the big day, posted, "The best birthday gift has been the support of all my fans and the most amazing and hardworking team an artist could wish for. We Latinos climbed Kilimanjaro and made history tonight and we couldn't have done it without all of you!"

Lopez, for her part, tagged individual members of her crew and wrote, "Thank you to my incredible team for the most epic halftime I could have ever imagined. I love you guys so much!"

The singer also popped up a gif of her carrying out an epic move on stage with the caption, "Sliding into the after party like..." Seems like it went a lot better than Bruce Springsteen's similar slide (right into a camera) back during 2014's halftime show

Hopefully, she had as much fun after the show as she did while she was performing what will surely go down as one of the best Super Bowl Halftime Show in recent years... or ever?
