The Truth About Noah Centineo's Drug Use

Noah Centineo may be best known for his charming role as Peter Kavinsky in Netflix's To All The Boys I've Loved Before, but in real life, the actor has a tricky past unlike his rom-com persona. The 23-year-old hunk, sometimes nicknamed "The Internet's Boyfriend," had quite a different life before he entered the Hollywood scene, including experimenting with drugs and booze at a young age.

In 2018, an old video of Centineo circled the web, where he admitted he was completely sober. "I don't smoke, I don't drink... I don't do drugs," he said, according to Teen Vogue. In the same clip, the actor explained he had been partying hard since he was 17, and at 21 decided enough was enough.

Once he quit his toxic habits, Centineo said his mental health issues became clear, and he began to actually deal with them by exercising, eating better, and doing yoga. He also got off his anxiety medications and began to try to understand where his panic attacks were coming from.

It wasn't all red carpets and rom-coms for Noah Centineo

Noah Centineo opened up about his drug past and battle with mental health in a candid February 2020 interview with Harper's Bazaar. He said that when he was a teen trying to make it in the industry, he and his friends would love to "take Molly and talk for five hours and like get to the bottom of some really deeply philosophical existential questions." He also regularly smoked marijuana, but quit a few years before deciding to get clean.

Apart from Molly, Centineo told the magazine that he tried "everything" he could. He admitted, "There wasn't really much I wouldn't do. I never, ever injected anything, which is good. I smoked a lot of things. I was really upset, man. It was a really dark time in my life."

What was the Perfect Date stud upset about? For starters, his parents' divorce.

Noah Centineo made a new life for himself

Noah Centineo's mom and dad split when he was 15 years old, according to his Harper's Bazaar profile. After that, everything pretty much went downhill. His older sister, Taylor Centineo, moved in with their dad, a pastor in Florida, and the star moved in with his mom in a lonely hotel room. At that point, the pressure of being there for his mother caused him endless stress, and led him to seek comfort in drugs and alcohol.

When he was 17 and his mother had made a solid group of friends, Centineo ran away from their shared hotel room and couch-surfed for about four years. That was when his "wild period" took place, per the magazine profile. Now, Centineo is starting to make it big in Hollywood, and his commitment to his sobriety has helped him maintain a clear head following years of chaos.

Now, he lives with his sister and is still close to his parents. Though he publicly dated model Alexis Ren for about a year, fans think the two broke up earlier this week, since they unfollowed each other on Instagram!
