Guys, Lindsay Lohan is back! On March 31, 2020, Lohan teased a new single on her social media platforms. The Mean Girls actress unveiled a 30-second video that included old media footage and clips from 2004's "Rumors." The background music was a distorted song, but ended with Lohan proclaiming, "I'm back." Each social post also included a link to her website to pre-save her single on Spotify.
It's unclear whether "I'm back" is the actual title of her new single, or if it just means she's returning with a new musical project. Perhaps a whole Lohan album is in our future? (Fingers crossed!) This will be the first official single Lohan has released in more than 10 years; her last single "Bossy" dropped in 2008, according to Entertainment Weekly.
In 2019, the pop singer hinted at a new song called "Xanax" and even released a compilation of short videos of her life on Instagram promoting it, Vulture reported. She accompanied the video with a revealing caption. "[This video is about] Family, love, the process of moving forward and letting go of the past," Lohan wrote. "To live and be happy, free of fear. Just to be grateful and open our eyes to our opportunities instead of numbing the mind." However, the video was eventually deleted.
Lindsay Lohan has been pretty busy the past few years
Though she's no longer making daily headlines in gossip magazines, Lindsay Lohan has been a busy bee. Over the past few years, she's done some acting, dabbled in reality TV, and even launched new business ventures.
Lohan starred as a vampire in the 2019 movie Among the Shadows — her first role in almost six years, according to Entertainment Weekly. She also executive produced and starred in the MTV reality show, Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club, which followed her daily routine running a beach club in Mykonos, Greece. The show only ran for one season before getting canceled. "The show didn't have 'enough drama,'" a source told Page Six. "They wanted 'breakdowns.' That's not where [Lohan] is at with her life anymore. Their personal business doesn't need to be aired on television; it's already in the papers anyway."
"This is me as I am as a person now," Lohan told EW in 2019 about her new work. "I'm tired of hearing about my past. It used to be 'More people! More noise! Distract me!' But now it's 'Shhh!' Taking time for [me] is important. I learned that the hard way, unfortunately. But I did. And I want to share that with other people."
Lindsay Lohan's short stint in the music industry
After starring in — and getting rave reviews for — several teen movies like Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Lindsay Lohan decided to try breaking into the music industry. According to USA Today, Lohan released her debut single "Ultimate" in 2003, a song from her movie Freaky Friday. That first single was well received and she released two more pop albums, 2004's Speak and 2005's A Little More Personal (Raw).
Neither were massive hits, per USA Today, and after her second album, Lohan would go on to only release random singles here and there. Perhaps the most notable is her 2015 song with Duran Duran, "Danceophobia."
Although her highest-charting single is "Confessions Of A Broken Heart (Daughter To Father)" — which peaked at No. 57 on the Hot 100 in 2005 — she's most well-known for the pop hit "Rumors" off her Speak album. Here's hoping her return to music gets her back on the charts!
