The Truth About Laura Dern And Baron Davis' Relationship

Over the course of the 2020 awards season, Laura Dern won numerous awards for her turn as divorce lawyer Nora Fanshaw in Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story, notably nabbing her first Academy Award.

In her acceptance speech, Dern said a "special thank you" to "the gifts of the love stories of my life, my stepchildren, CJ and Harris, my heart and inspiration, Ellery and Jaya." She shares children Ellery and Jaya with ex-husband Ben Harper, who she was married to from 2005 until 2013. Through their marriage, Dern also became the stepmother of Harper's children from his first marriage.

While Dern and Harper officially split in 2013, Harper actually filed for divorce in 2010, citing "irreconcilable differences." According to TMZ, Dern was reportedly blindsided by the divorce papers. Despite the surprise divorce filing and "long-running divorce," it seems Dern has managed to come to terms with what happened.

During her backstage speech after winning a Golden Globe for her role in Marriage Story, the A-list actress opened up about why she was so drawn to the role in the first place. "As [director Noah Baumbach] first said about the story when we first talked about it, he said, 'I want to tell a love story where endings are not failures.' And that really moved me and struck me deeply."

After her love story with Harper ended, Dern was connected with quite a few Hollywood hunks, including Bradley Cooper and Common. The award-winning actress was also linked to NBA player Baron Davis, a potential romance that really intrigued fans.

A paparazzi shot of Laura Dern And Baron Davis kickstarted the rumor mill

In December 2017, US Weekly posted a photo of Laura Dern and NBA player Baron Davis sharing a kiss while out and about in Los Angeles, and effectively set the internet on fire. An eyewitness told the outlet that while Dern was "trying to remain incognito," the two "were kissing and touching and were all over each other," adding that they looked "very much like a new couple in love."

At the time, a source told People that the seemingly loved up pair were just "good friends." That being said, the internet totally shipped Dern and Davis. After the photo hit the internet, one person tweeted, "Where were you when Laura Dern and Baron Davis changed your life?" Another noted that the news was a welcome change of pace over on Twitter, writing, "Twitter is trash, but news like Laura Dern & Baron Davis make it worthwhile. Can not (sic) think of a more random but awesome couple."

While the pair appeared to be pretty hot and heavy in 2017, saying that things have noticeably cooled off since then is definitely an understatement. In fact, after that initial sighting, Dern and Davis have yet to be photographed together again. For that reason, it's unclear whether or not the two are still together, broken up or if they were even ever officially together in the first place.

That being said, regardless of what's going on with her personal life these days, Dern's professional life is certainly thriving — just ask the new "man" in her life, Oscar.
