The Real Reason Amanda Seales Is Leaving The Real

Amanda Seales — who plays Tiffany DuBois on HBO's hit show Insecure opposite Issa Rae — is known for expressing her strong opinions on Fox's talk show The Real. In January 2020, the actress replaced Tamar Braxton — who was fired in 2016, per Entertainment Tonight — and joined the show's co-hosts Loni Love, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Adrienne Bailon, and Jeannie Mai at the table.

At the time, Seales was "looking forward" to partaking in "exciting and intellectual conversations that keep [the show's] audience laughing, learning, and living their best lives!" she said in a statement, per Deadline.

Donna Redier Linsk, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Telepictures echoed her excitement, too. "Her unique voice at the table will add new dimensions to the conversation, and with the continued support of our partners at Fox, will guarantee a bright future for years to come.

Despite Seales' impressive resume — actress, podcast host, activist, and comedian — fans weren't sure she would last on the show and constantly criticized her stance on social issues via the internet.

Unfortunately, on June 2, 2020, Seales announced she was stepping down from her role at The Real after only six months. What happened? Keep scrolling to find out.

Amanda Seales wasn't able to express herself on 'The Real'

Amanda Seales' reason for leaving Fox's daytime talk show, The Real, after a super short amount of time was actually very simple — she felt she couldn't fully express herself on television. "My contract is up at The Real, and I didn't renew it," she told actor Brandon Dixon during an Instagram Live on June 2, 2020. "It doesn't feel good to my soul to be at a place where I can not speak to my people the way they need to be spoken to. And where the people that are speaking to me in despairing ways are not being handled."

She continued, "I'm not at a space where, as a full black woman, I can have my voice and my co-workers also have their voices, and where the people at the top are not respecting the necessity for black voices to be at the top, too."

Seales' decision comes after protests erupted across the United States (and around the world) following the wrongful death of George Floyd, who died after Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes on May 25, 2020.

In the aftermath of Floyd's death, Seales has been partaking in interesting and thought-provoking Instagram Live conversations. On June 3, 2020, she spoke with Snoop Dogg about "The Real, these crooked ass cops, how to create change, brothas and Sistas coming together and more!"

Amanda Seales insisted there was no 'conflict' behind the scenes

When Hollywood stars leave television shows abruptly, people assume there was some sort of fight or incident on set. However, Amanda Seales set the record straight after rumors swirled that she unfollowed former co-host Loni Love on social media.

"Do not try to create some false dissension between me and the co-hosts of The Real. Y'all so f**king corny," Seales said in an Instagram Story on June 3, 2020 (via People). "There is a whole pandemic and an uprising going on, and you still can't find s**t else to do but try and create some conflict that doesn't exist? I did not unfollow Loni Love. I haven't unfollowed anybody."

She continued, "What ya'll don't understand is grown women do grown women business. That's what y'all don't understand, and what I do with my business ain't got nothing to do with them sisters."

Clearly, her former co-workers have nothing but love for Seales since Adrienne Bailon commented on her Instagram Live with Brandon Dixon with three hands up emojis. For her part, Loni Love uploaded a video of Seales' rant on Instagram, writing, "You make me laugh, you make me think, you make me a better woman ... thank you @amandaseales."

We have no doubt Seales will keep soaring in the industry. "I'll find the bread in a matter that serves me," she said on her Instagram Live. Amen to that!

Amanda Seales is being praised for refusing to 'sell her soul for a coin'

Amanda Seales decided to leave The Real behind in order to do what she felt was right. While some viewers are surely sad that they'll no longer be able to see her on the show, it seems like many fans fully support her choice.

"The reason why 'Hollywood' don't like @amandaseales is because she ain't out here politicing [sic]," one social media user wrote on Twitter. "She's know wtf she's talking about ...," adding that Seales isn't "living politically correct to appease the powers that be. Y'all hate to see a Black woman not sell her soul for a coin."

Another fan agreed, tweeting, "I stay stanning for the black social justice warrior that is @amandaseales! The fact that she is sane amongst all the rubbish that is spewed her way is a gift from God and a blessing to the culture. We will protect her at all cost... #ProtectBlackWomen"

While most people seemed to be supportive of Seales, the star was willing to address those who took an issue with her decision — and possibly questioned the validity of her stance — writing, "I find it fascinating that folks think I have any reason to lie about anything involving anything, let alone this Hollywood BS. For who? Lol laughable. Now back to what ACTUALLY matters. FIGHT THE POWER."
