Savannah Guthrie Breaks Our Heart With Just One Word About Mom Nancy

On an episode of "Today," Savannah Guthrie said a single word that spoke volumes about what she believes to be the fate of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. The moment came during a joyous time for the "Today" crew as they announced they would be filming the show in Ireland this October. All eyes were on Savannah when they played a clip of her talking about wanting to visit Ireland during an interview with Pierce Brosnan in April 2025. "You manifested it for all of us. So SG, your dreams and all of ours are coming true; we are heading to Ireland," Jenna Hager Bush told her co-host. Producers even had Brosnan send a video message to the hosts about their upcoming trip, along with a special shoutout to Savannah. "Dearest Savannah, love and blessings to you," he said while blowing a kiss to the camera.

That message led to Savannah discussing her heritage and making a rare mention of Nancy, who was abducted on February 1. "I've never been to Ireland," the host said. "My mother's family — my mother was Irish. Her grandmother, they're from Galway." Savannah speaking about Nancy in the past tense was a crushing sign that she believes her mother has passed.

It was revealed in June that the second note from someone claiming to be one of Nancy's kidnappers indicated that she had died. After that news became public, Savannah appeared on "Today" to make a plea to anyone who may know about the whereabouts of Nancy's remains. " I want to just take the opportunity to ask people, to really beg people to come forward," she said. "And we are in agony. We cannot be at peace," the NBC personality added. Sadly, Savannah has signaled the heartbreaking acceptance that her mom has died a few times now.

A month after the news was made public about the second note claiming that Nancy Guthrie had died shortly after her abduction, Savannah Guthrie posted a stirring video on Instagram. In the post, Savannah made a heartbreaking three-word plea, writing "bring her home" in the caption. "Our family is in agony," the "Today" host said in her somber video. "Nothing about our situation has changed. ... We will never stop looking for her," she added. That post was directly aimed at reaching Nancy's captors, seemingly in hopes of recovering her remains. "I know that you have tried to do things the right way. ... Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her," Savannah said.

Days later, on the six-month anniversary of her mother's disappearance, Savannah made another emotional Instagram post. It featured a photo of Nancy alongside a lengthy caption imploring anyone with info about her whereabouts to come forward. "We have lived every moment, every breath, and every heartbeat in agony and despair ever since," the daytime TV host wrote about Nancy's kidnapping. "You can [provide information] anonymously. The reward is available. There is a way to end this situation and do the right thing," Savannah added, hoping to entice anyone with info to step forward.

The reward Savannah referenced was the $1 million that was offered in February, weeks after Nancy was taken from her home. At the time, Savannah had already received the note disclosing that her mom was dead. "We also know that she may be lost, she may already be gone," Savannah said in an Instagram post offering the reward money.
