Helen Mirren arrived at the Season 2 premiere of "MobLand" outshining everyone and everything — including her supposed beef with co-star Tom Hardy. The 81-year-old actor was a vision in sparkles, wearing a stunning gown designed by Jenny Packham. She looked absolutely gorgeous, much like she did during her younger years. Rumors about Hardy being fired from the set spread as quickly as they were put to rest when it was announced he might not be making a return for Season 3. A source told Variety, "Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively." Just a month later, Variety reported Hardy was officially making his return for Season 3.

The pair seemed to be in good spirits during the Season 2 premiere of the Paramount+ series, which follows the Harrigan crime family and their mission to protect themselves from their rivals. Hardy plays street-smart Harry Da Souza, a loyal ally to the Harrigans. Mirren and Pierce Brosnan play the heads of the Harrigan household. The cast as a whole seemed to be chummy with each other, but perhaps not as chummy as Mirren and Hardy, who were seen talking closely in a particularly long embrace. From their interaction at the event, it's obvious that the two are more than cordial.

The false rumors behind Tom Hardy's 'MobLand' Season 3 absence

Rumors began swirling when the Daily Mail wrote that Tom Hardy wouldn't be returning for Season 3 after being fired for poor behavior. Supposedly, Helen Mirren disliked Hardy's arrogant attitude on set, claiming he "swaggers around like a king." Specifics surrounding the rumor were first reported in The Puck newsletter. The Puck noted producers simply couldn't deal with Hardy's raging attitude. Hardy's never been one to stay silent, especially when something is bothering him — as was evident when he fired back during a live TV interview. It's also especially easy to believe considering Hardy's difficult on-set relationship with his "Mad Max: Fury Road" co-star, Charlize Theron.

An insider told the Daily Mail that Mirren was "getting increasingly frustrated with Tom and his attitude. He can be late to filming too and that is annoying...She expects better. She holds people to a high standard. She's 80. She's been there and seen it all." However, it seems these rumors were just that — rumors and nothing more. At the Season 2 premiere, Pierce Brosnan told the Press Association the reported on-set tension rumors were a "storm in a teacup, really." He went on to say, "We are rock solid as a company, as a family. Everyone shows up for work, and everybody's just there on the spot." Season 3 of "MobLand" should bring some high-stakes on-screen crime drama, but hopefully not any real-life drama along with it.
