Michael J. Fox Leaves 2026 Emmys Audience On Verge Of Tears With Emotional Parkinson's Speech
Michael J. Fox pulled on Hollywood's heartstrings as he accepted the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2026 Emmy Awards. In fact, a number of stars were visibly moved before giving the "Back to the Future" star a standing ovation. Fox began his speech by acknowledging Bob Hope and his dedication to bringing joy to military families. Noting that the comedian had impacted his own life too, Fox shared, "I couldn't have known how these lessons would resonate in my own life, until my late 20s, when my life handed me a role I wasn't looking for," (via Variety). Of course, that was when Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, though the '80s icon went on to note that for a long time, he tried to keep it quiet. "Initially I kept my Parkinson's diagnosis a secret. I was worried it would affect my work and relationships with audiences. Would they laugh if they knew I was sick?" he admitted.
