Lionel Richie's Latest Hospitalization Has Worried Fans Urging The Same Thing

Singer Lionel Richie has been forced to hit pause on his "Sing a Song All Night Long" tour after going back to the hospital on September 22, 2026. He was hospitalized due to his ongoing battle with atrial fibrillation, which is also known as an irregular heartbeat. He will be undergoing AFib ablation in an attempt to create a regular heart rhythm. He has had to cancel the next three tour dates with Earth, Wind & Fire, including his planned stops in San Francisco, Chicago, and Columbus, Ohio. 

This was not the first time the superstar has had to step away from his 2026 tour due to his health. At the end of August, he was hospitalized after performing in St. Louis and placed in the intensive care unit (ICU) for three days where they tested him for dehydration and cardiac issues. Before that, Richie also had to leave mid-performance at his St. Paul, Minnesota concert in June after feeling dizzy on stage and went to the hospital. 

Fans are comparing his health struggles and desire to keep performing to the late Dolly Parton, who passed away in August 2026 at the age of 80. "He needs to retire so he can enjoy the spoils of a lifetime of wealth building. He doesn't want to end up like Dolly where he's doing a show, has to suddenly stop to go to the hospital, and passes away a few days later," an X user said. More fans echoed this sentiment. "This brother is magnificent & talented beyond light years. He did his thing & has nothing more to prove. But now it's time to shut it down Mr. Richie & to enjoy what is left of your life with your family," one fan pleaded.

While Lionel Richie continues to perform and do what he loves, many fans of the star think he should take a step back. Richie has one of the biggest age-gap relationships in Hollywood right now with girlfriend Lisa Parigi, and it may be time for him to focus on this relationship and his family rather than enduring the physical strain of touring. "Get your rest King.. We don't need to see you struggle on tour. I wished I have seen you live," one X user said. "He should take his time and have proper rest. I hope he recovers soon," another agreed. 

Tour cancelations are often met with disappointment and backlash, but many are actually calling for the singer to cancel the whole tour instead. "Oh no. He needs to cancel his tour and rest," a supporter said. Many fans are also confused by the star's insistence on continuing the tour despite the health risks and setbacks. "Maybe stop performing if you know you have heart problems? Is he being forced into this? Is he in debt? I'm really not understanding why he's doing this to himself," a fan asked. 

There have been many celebrity health crises of 2026, and Richie is only adding to that growing list. As fans pour their love and support into the star, their vocal concerns over his health are understandable.
