Strange 90 Day Fiancé Love Triangles Only Real Fans Know About
TLC's "90 Day Fiancé" brings together eclectic couples from the U.S. and across the globe to see whether they can stand the test of time long enough to earn a marriage certificate (and a green card). The series has featured some truly fascinating individuals on the hunt for love, no matter how far it might take them. Living with someone is certainly eye-opening, especially when dating your long-distance partner for quite some time. For "90 Day Fiancé" couples, quirks, cleanliness, language barriers, and general culture shocks are usually the perfect storm for relationship troubles that make for epically watchable fights. What brings things up a notch are the occasional love triangles the couples may find themselves in throughout the season.
Season 12 of "90 Day Fiancé" introduced the world to the controversial couple Catie Norboe and Joshua Atkins. The pair are in a love triangle with, well, everyone. Or at least, anyone Norboe wants to smooch every time she has a little too much to drink. Some fans have speculated that Atkins must really want his green card with how much he puts up with on Norboe's end. Her behavior doesn't mark the only time a scandalous romantic entanglement took over a season of the show. Here are some of the most complicated love triangles to come out of "90 Day Fiancé."
Laura might have loved being in the middle of a Birkan and Michael sandwich
Laura Nevenner and Birkan Kuzoren appeared on Season 8 of "90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days," and the love triangle was evident from the beginning. Nevenner lived in Vancouver, Washington, and spent a lot of time with her best friend, Michal. The two shared the same hobbies and interests, plus they lived in the same state. Some of Nevenner's friends even believed she and Michal were a couple because of how much time they spent together and how long they'd known each other. Her boyfriend, Kuzoren, however, lived in Turkey. Naturally, this created some tension for the couple.
While Nevenner and Michal are technically "best friends," it's made clear throughout the season that there's more to it than that. When Nevenner first introduced the audience to Michal, she even stated that things between them "have been confusing at times" (via Swooon). Kuzoren finally meeting Michal for the first time goes down as one of the most uncomfortable moments on "90 Day Fiancé." From hardly speaking to him to making rude comments, although Kuzoren would never agree, it appeared that he was extremely jealous of Nevenner and Michal's friendship. Kuzoren eventually confronted Michal about it, which led Michal to admit that Nevenner was actually the one to make a move on him. The year prior, Nevenner apparently tried to kiss Michal. Awkward...
Unfortunately, Nevenner and Kuzoren broke off their engagement due to several other issues in their relationship that had nothing to do with Michal, including Kuzoren's gambling problem. However, it's safe to say that perhaps Nevenner enjoyed being the subject of two men's affection.
Stephanie, Ryan and Harris' love triangle kept it all in the family.
Stephanie Davison and Ryan Carr were featured on Season 8 of "90 Day Fiancé." Unfortunately, things were rocky from the beginning. When Carr introduced himself on the show, he explained how he wanted to come to America to be with Davison. However, he also chimed in with the fact that he spent lots of time with the mother of his children in Belize, where he's from. The clip shows Carr being quite affectionate with his baby mama, Emma. Plus, Davison and Carr had already built up trust issues when Davison learned that Carr was texting another woman. Eek. But the awkwardness doesn't stop there.
As many of the show's stars have discovered, it takes just one "90 Day Fiancé" episode to ruin a reputation. In Davison's case, her revelation that she actually slept with Carr's cousin, Harris Flowers, didn't paint her in the best light. This moment of weakness occurred when Davison and Carr went through a breakup before patching things up and getting back together. What was even more shocking was Carr's reaction, which wasn't much considering the level of betrayal. In a twist of events, Carr revealed that he knew all along that Davison had a fling with his cousin. He forgave Davison but cut his cousin off. Later on, however, Davison revealed that her entanglement with Carr's cousin was only "2% true" (via Screen Rant), shedding light on the many totally fake things about "90 Day Fiancé."
Sean, Abby, and Chris taught us to never stay friends with an ex
This is another case of a male bestie creating tension in a relationship. Except this time, they're not only besties, but they're also exes. Sean Hiler and Abby St. Germain appeared on Season 1 of "90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days." The two were in an age-gap relationship, with Hiler being 47 at the time he met St. Germain, who was only 20. This wasn't the only age-gap relationship St. Germain had been in. Her ex, Chris, was 64 years old when he appeared on the show.
Let's face it, being friends with an ex never leads to anything good, especially when you're in a relationship with someone else. Being close with Chris, given their history, naturally became something Hiler was jealous of. While St. Germain continuously told Hiler not to worry about her friendship with Chris, it was obvious that there was still tension there between the two of them. At one point, she even slipped up and said Chris' name instead of Hiler's in an interview. Ultimately, the relationship didn't work out, and St. Germain married a man named Louis Dubell in 2020. They have since started a family together.
Matt, Amani and Any's throupling became the messiest love triangle of all
Matt Jlassi, Amani Jlassi, and Any Aguirre made history as the first throuple to ever grace the "90 Day Fiancé" universe. Matt and Amani appeared as a couple on season 11 of "90 Day Fiancé." They were married for 10 years and had a few kids together before deciding to try opening up their relationship. Matt and Amani met Aguirre while on a vacation in Mexico. The three had an undeniable chemistry that couldn't be ignored. In an interview with People, Amani explained the beauty in how their relationship formed, unplanned. "They say the best things in life aren't even planned. They just happen, and it's one of those," she said.
While things were good in the beginning, things quickly started to fall apart within the throuple. It makes sense, considering the decade of history Matt and Amani shared with each other before Aguirre entered the picture. It can be easy to feel like a third wheel, especially when a large chunk of the relationship is long-distance. However, when the couple came to visit Aguirre in Mexico, it was Amani who began feeling like a third wheel. From being left out of intimate time to being labeled as a "friend" around Aguirre's family, it was becoming clear who Aguirre favored in the relationship. When it came time to apply for the K-1 visa, Aguirre had a clear preference for who she wanted to marry, which created lots of tension between her and Amani. It didn't end up working out for the throuple, but according to Swooon, Matt and Amani are still going strong. If they could survive a throuple relationship on a TLC show, they could probably survive just about anything together.
