Wedding Dresses Of Hallmark Stars That Missed The Mark
Hallmark is known for its array of love stories. Whether it's about a prince falling in love with a baker or a realtor returning to her hometown and falling for a local charmer, there are always plenty of interesting rom-coms with beloved tropes coming out over the course of each year. And because of this, Hallmark has also put on plenty of on-screen weddings, usually extravagant and with chic dresses for the brides. But unfortunately, the fashion sense of Hallmark's characters doesn't always translate to the real-life weddings of the actresses who play them.
Given their on-screen jobs, it shouldn't be too big of a surprise for many of the women from Hallmark to have just as rich of romantic lives in the real world. Many familiar faces like Jodie Sweetin and Alexa PenaVega found their own prince charming off the screen and had a happy, love-filled wedding. But as for their dresses, well, let's just say that it's clear that they weren't working with a celebrity stylist for the big day. Of course, they still looked gorgeous, but there were definitely dresses that would've worked better, whether the style didn't suit them or it felt out of place in the setting.
So which Hallmark stars could've done better with their wedding dress choices? Well, there are quite a few starlets whose wedding dresses truly missed the mark.
Jodie Sweetin's wedding dress bodice didn't suit the TV star
Jodie Sweetin has been married a few times, but when she walked down the aisle with her current husband, Mescal Wasilewski, in 2022, well, let's just say her gown could've been better. While the lace all over the dress suited her well, the silhouette, and in particular, the neckline, felt a bit off. With thin straps and a deep V-neckline, it simply didn't work for her, and the statement necklace made it even worse. In photos from the event, it also looked like the dress didn't fit her correctly around the waist. Even so, with stunning detailing on the back and a long lacy train, Sweetin made it work for her.
In the actor's case, she actually had a time crunch while picking the dress, which made a custom gown impossible and might have contributed to the not-so-perfect dress she decided to go with for her big day. Sweetin picked the first wedding dress she tried on, telling People it was "perfect," and said that it only needed hem alterations.
Sweetin added that the dress had one major thing going for it. "It's comfortable. I can sit in it. I'm like, I don't want to be miserable. I don't want to be uncomfortable. And I put it on and I felt gorgeous." While it might not have been the best dress for her, Sweetin clearly loved it, and she was all smiles when she walked down the aisle surrounded by friends, family, and her "Full House" co-stars.
The wedding dress Alexa PenaVega chose left a lot to be desired
Alexa PenaVega's love story with her husband, Carlos PenaVega, can be seen on camera; the two first starred together in "Enchanted Christmas" in 2017. Since then, they have acted in many more rom-com Hallmark films together, hopefully with more to come. The real-life couple started dating in 2012 and got married two years later, and since then, they've welcomed three kids together. As for what their wedding looked like, the two went for a casual beach affair in Mexico surrounded by friends and family. While it looked like the couple had an amazing time, Alexa's dress was a miss.
Unfortunately, the relaxed beach setting might have led the bride astray, as the dress she chose for the event left much to be desired. Alexa went with an ivory dress in satin that had sparkling embellishments below the nape, while the rest of the back was left open. It had a loose fit, with the dress bunching at the front in an unflattering way. There was also one long piece of fabric that flowed down on one side.
While the slight flow of the dress was suited to the setting, the overall fit could have been better. Alexa added a flower crown on the top of her head, which clashed with the more formal aspects of the dress, like the elaborate detailing on the back. The material choice and off-white color felt a little out of place as well, and a true white would've looked amazing on the bride. Despite this, Alexa and Carlos' wedding looked magical, and they were clearly ecstatic to walk down the aisle.
Tamera Mowry-Housley's wedding dress took away from her natural beauty
Tamera Mowry-Housley had multiple dresses for her wedding to Adam Housley, including one for the ceremony and one for the reception. But one of the gowns was much better than the other. While her reception dress was chic and delicate, her dress for the wedding ceremony just felt like too much. Mowry-Housley wore a Carolina Herrera strapless mermaid gown with a poufy skirt at the bottom and an extravagant bow embellishment on one side. With the straight neckline and sleek fabric, you would expect the dress to feel simpler, but somehow it seemed to take the attention away from the bride's natural beauty.
Mowry-Housley's choice of hairstyle was a bit of a miss too, as she went for an elaborate updo with a big pouf at the top, while the rest came together at the back. It added drama to the look, but not for the better. She also wore a glamorous sparkling necklace and earring set, but like the hair, it didn't really emphasize Mowry-Housley's beauty, but rather overwhelmed it. In contrast, her reception dress looked elegant and allowed her beauty to shine.
In an interview with Glamour about her big day, Mowry-Housley revealed that she actually had three wedding looks total, with the third a shorter, fitted dress for later in the night. It's something she probably wouldn't do again. She joked, "When your husband says he can't find you because you were changing, that's not good!" As for her main wedding dress, she loved it, saying, "I dream of renewing my wedding vows in [it]." As long as the bride is happy, that's what matters.
Candace Cameron Bure's gown felt old-fashioned even for the 1990s
Candace Cameron Bure might not be at Hallmark anymore, but she'll forever remain a fan favorite for her past films on the network. And while she's got some great fashion looks these days, her style when she got married in the 1990s could've used some help. Sure, Cameron Bure tied the knot with Valeri Bure in 1996, meaning her dress was a pick from what is arguably one of the worst eras of fashion yet, but we still feel like she could've found something better.
On her big day, Cameron Bure wore a lacy long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder dress with a huge skirt and a poufy, layered veil. All in all, it was a lot. If she had cut out one or two of these characteristics, maybe it could've been saved. But altogether, that's another story. The silhouette of the dress simply didn't suit Cameron Bure much, especially with the long-sleeved style, and the neckline looked a little ill-fitting. Taking it one step further, she also held an especially over-the-top bouquet of white roses on her big day.
While one excuse for the "Full House" star's dress could be that it was the middle of the 1990s, it honestly looked even more old-fashioned than that. But one thing we can say for certain is that Cameron Bure's wedding dress is better left in the past. Meanwhile, the actress and her husband are still going strong 30 years later, with three kids and a happy life together.
