Patty Duke's Granddaughter Looks Just Like The Legend

When Patty Duke passed away in March 2016, she left behind quite the legacy. She won an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, per IMDb. She was also the youngest person to have their name in lights above the marquee on Broadway (for The Miracle Worker), and when she won her Oscar for the film adaption of that show, she became the youngest Academy Award winner ever (via Country Living).

Duke is remembered for her mental health struggles almost as much as for her incredible acting skills and accomplishments. According to the Los Angeles Times, she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder in 1982, and was one of the first celebrities to speak openly about mental health issues. She discussed her struggles and more in her 1987 memoir, Call Me Anna. "I was very frightened when I wrote the book," Duke said in 1990 (via the Los Angeles Times). "You fear if you reveal yourself as having a mental illness, you are unemployable, you are an oddball."

Duke's son, Sean Astin — known for his roles in The Goonies, The Lord of the Rings, and Stranger Things made it his mission to carry on his mother's goal of increasing mental health awareness. He launched a crowdfunding campaign to establish the Patty Duke Mental Health Initiative, according to the Los Angeles Times, but he's not the only member of the family who is carrying on Duke's legacy in showbiz.

Patty Duke's granddaughter is a carbon copy of her famous grandmother

The legendary Patty Duke was a trailblazer in Hollywood and spent many years raising awareness of mental health issues. After finding huge success on the stage, small screen, and movies, it's no surprise that some of her kids followed her into the industry.

Two of Duke's children, Sean Astin (pictured right) and Mackenzie Astin, both became actors. Sean was a hugely successful child actor after landing the lead role in the 1985 adventure flick The Goonies. He went on to star in many movies and TV shows, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. Mackenzie also found early success, landing a pivotal role on The Facts of Life and appearing on many other shows, including Lost, House, Psych, Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and NCIS.

The acting bug also bit Sean's daughter, Alexandria Astin (pictured left), who's a working actress in Hollywood and even appeared in The Lord of the Rings with her dad. Alexandria (who goes by "Ali" professionally) is also known for how much she resembles her legendary grandmother. From their eyes to their grins, these two look like carbon copies!
