Chrissy Teigen's Difficult Pregnancy Explained

As with most experiences in her life, Chrissy Teigen has been very open throughout her third pregnancy. In September 2020, she shared that she was on bed rest during a series of Instagram Stories, according to Page Six. She revealed that she was advised to go on bed rest earlier in the month, but she didn't fully understand the specifics of how to comply. "I didn't really know that bed rest was in bed. I honestly thought bed rest was you have to really, really relax, stay home," Teigen said. "I thought it could be couch rest. But now I'm in trouble. Now I need bed rest."

The soon-to-be mother of three said, "It's a bit of a difficult pregnancy. I feel good though." The Sports Illustrated alum theorized, "I will say I'm probably being punished for talking so much about how great the first two went." She is taking bed rest seriously this time around, making efforts to be "as healthy as possible." Teigen gave an update on Twitter, as per usual, sharing, "Been in bed for all but 5 mins of the last 24 hours. Here til next Tuesday. Lord it's kind of crappier than it sounds."

Teigen remarked that she now understands people who think pregnancy is "not awesome" but is still "very happy to be carrying this baby." Even though this isn't her first pregnancy, this time has been full of difficulties and surprises, right from the very beginning.

Chrissy Teigen unknowingly had plastic surgery during pregnancy

Chrissy Teigen found out that she was pregnant for the third time in a truly surprising way. She explained in an August 2020 tweet that before getting her breast implants removed in May 2020, she "did the routine pregnancy test" before the procedure, and "it said negative." But the test, evidently, was wrong. The author shared that she got a positive pregnancy test "a few weeks after surgery."

"For many years now, I've taken pregnancy tests almost every month, praying to see a positive one day," she explained. "Just wishful thinking. I never had a positive before." In another tweet, Teigen said she started her monthly pregnancy test ritual when she was 21 years old. "I know it's weird," she said. "I just always, always wanted to see a positive. This was the time!"

Those tweets weren't the first time that Teigen and her husband John Legend have been open about their struggles to conceive. Teigen discussed her fertility difficulties during a September 2015 episode of FABLife, confessing, "John and I were having trouble. We would have had kids five, six years ago if it had happened" (via ET). At the time, she admitted that she and Legend were frequently asked about their plans to start a family, which added some pressure to an already difficult situation. A month later, she announced that she was pregnant in an Instagram post. Teigen and Legend welcomed their daughter Luna in April 2016.

Chrissy Teigen struggles with headaches during pregnancy

After a fan asked Chrissy Teigen how she'd been feeling in September 2020, she responded that she's okay but having "bad headaches" — an ongoing struggle for her. In another tweet, the mom revealed, "I get really really bad pregnancy headaches," admitting that she "was thrilled to be cleared to do neck muscle botox along with a crazy combo of beta blocker shots and radio wave frequency something something doctor terms." Even though her headaches had been "so bad," getting Botox injects has helped her "see the light finally."

When another fan shared that her doctor would not let her get Botox during her own pregnancy, Chrissy advised, "If you have the means to go to a neurologist instead of cosmetic it's a lot better and safer because they talk to your OB."

Unfortunately, this pregnancy was not the only time that Teigen has endured painful headaches. In December 2017, while she was pregnant with her son Miles, Teigen tweeted, "Love being pregnant. I like it more than not being pregnant. But the headaches, my god the headaches. Someone...please help. Don't say water. Or Tylenol. Or iron. Or magnesium. I need witchcraft."

Although Teigen is not having the easiest pregnancy, she does have doctors, John Legend, chatty social media followers, and even her bed to provide the support that she needs to make the experience as healthy as possible for her and her unborn child.
