The book reveals intimate details of Carey's upbringing, her rise to superstardom, and past relationships, including her two marriages. One of the personal stories the "Fantasy" singer recalls is her marriage to Wild 'n Out creator, rapper, and tv personality Nick Cannon.
The couple first met in 2005, according to People, at the Teen Choice Awards after the singer won a surfboard. Carey revealed in her memoir that "with a genuine beaming smile and a flame in his eyes, he replied, 'If you give me a chance, I'll prove all of it is true.'″ Apparently, it was ″a cute moment — very."
The two officially became a couple in 2008 and quickly wed a few weeks later at Carey's Bahamian estate. Three years into the marriage, Carey and Cannon welcomed their twins Moroccan and Monroe, before splitting in 2014.
In 2020, six years after the split, the couple seemingly still have a "Vision of Love" when it comes to co-parenting.

Despite their split in 2014, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's relationship was and is still filled with love. Even up until late 2019, Cannon had repeatedly stepped up to defend the pop and R&B icon, particularly when it comes to his feud with Eminem. However, Cannon's admiration for Carey might have to do with their children, twins Moroccan and Monroe.
Speaking to Oprah Winfrey about her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the "Hero" singer shared that the two "continue to co-parent" and that there is "no animosity" between the former couple. "We have fun, we laugh, we make sure they (their kids) see that there's a sense of family there," said Carey. The Grammy-winning singer also shared a sweet sentiment about Cannon in her memoir (via People), writing that the rapper will "always be family."
Back in 2018, Cannon shared a similar kind of adoration for his ex-wife, telling People, "Her and I, we've always had a strong understanding and a strong love for each other, and I think that's why, to this day, it still works so well."

Mariah Carey's career has been marked by her high-pitched vocals, countless No.1 hits, and diva-persona. Although the singer is not shy about owning her diva-like nature, Carey also let her fans in on her own personal struggles with bipolar disorder in 2018, which sparked discussions around how her disorder was often misconstrued as the star being a diva throughout her career. Ex-husband Nick Cannon publicly supported Carey's honesty with the world in an interview with People at the time.
"She's just happy being who she is," said the rapper and comedian. "She's one of those people who doesn't pay attention to anyone. I learned that from her — that was probably one of the greatest lessons I learned from her." He added that "[a]ll of that outside noise is just clutter," which is why "[y]ou can't pay attention to what's going on out there, especially when you're dealing with the power within." In Cannon's opinion, when it comes to Carey, "she has so much power and so much strength." Cannon went on to call the "We Belong Together" singer "one of the most powerful women and spirits [he's] ever come across."

The marriage between Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon came as a surprise to friends and family of the couple, considering they had only dated for a little over a month before tying the knot. With the singer's memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, lambs are learning what it was about Cannon that gave Carey butterflies. ″He was a good guy," wrote Carey in the book (via People). "He was faith-based. He was ambitious. He had been in the entertainment industry for a long time, so he understood the madness. He paid attention to me."
The singer also revealed that it was Cannon who changed her mind about becoming a mother. ″Our desire to have children became a force of nature and why we got married so quickly," she explained. As for their eventual split after six years of marriage, it was largely due to their conflicting egos.
″Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions got inflamed (which can translate into many billable lawyer hours, and ultimately it did),″ the singer wrote in her memoir. While admitting that "[i]t was tough," Carey noted why they still remain friendly to this day. "We both wanted to make sure everything was cool for our family," she wrote. "We will always be family, and we make it work.″
