Why DWTS Fans Didn't Expect To See Johnny Weir On The Chopping Block

Dancing With The Stars is a tough competition, and even those that seem like naturals on the dance floor can have a bad night. Take, for example, Johnny Weir's performance during DWTS Week 6, which did not impress at least one judge. It's not for lack of trying, though: Weir and partner Britt Stewart danced to Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull's hit single "Get On The Floor." Weir dedicated the dance to three of his friends and paid real homage to J.Lo with a fringed outfit and his hair pulled back with braids across his forehead. His look wasn't the issue.

He almost got sent home, if it weren't for some other judges who had voted to save him. Weir and Stewart received a total of 22 out of 30 points, which meant they were almost eliminated. The key word? Almost. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba was not kind to the former ice skater, even going so far as to vote to save the other bottom couple, former NFL star Vernon Davis and Peta Murgatroyd. So was he really that bad?

Johnny Weir just couldn't swing it

Although the spirit was there, Johnny Weir's salsa dancing to Jennifer Lopez's "On The Floor" on Dancing With The Stars was not up to par, according to judge Carrie Ann Inaba. Inaba has generally been a fan of the former ice skater, per Lancaster Online. According to the outlet, the judge told Weir, "The truth is, you win some, you lose some. This wasn't your best dance. ... For me, you had a slow start. Once you were side-by-side, I felt you found it and I enjoyed watching it."

She added that his hip action just wasn't giving her salsa vibes and his other moves looked a little stiff. After he was saved by the other two judges, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough, Weir posted on Instagram, per Lancaster Online, that he had a "rough day," but his partner had helped him through.

Fans took to Twitter to share their shock about Weir's results. "What the hell is Carrie Ann talking about? Johnny Weir and Britt did great!!" one user wrote. "That contemporary choreo was MEANT for Johnny Weir! Bravo to him for crushing it, and to Britt for creating it! #DWTS," shared another fan. "Loved your dance tonight! I'm only watching DWTS because of YOU," commented a third viewer. "You looked more like the Johnny Weir I know and love tonight."
