This Is Why Kim Kardashian Won't Talk About The O.J. Simpson Trial

Before Keeping Up With the Kardashians, before The Simple Life, before Kimye, reality TV queen Kim Kardashian had a front-row seat to the trial of the 20th century (literally). The Kardashian family was at the center of the O.J. Simpson trial as Kim's father, the late Robert Kardashian, was one of Simpson's defense attorneys, and her mother Kris was best friends with one of the crime's victims, Nicole Brown Simpson. As it turns out, the families were close before the murder.

On a recent episode of David Letterman's My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Kim told the legendary host that she and her sisters called Simpson "Uncle O.J." and that the families had gone on vacation together only a week before the story broke in the news. Of course, the trial was highly publicized day after day for nearly two years, giving Kim her "first real lesson with the media," to which she's now so accustomed. And while her mother still believes that Simpson is responsible for the murder — Nicole was her best friend, after all — Kim still declines to speculate, at least publicly, about the trial's verdict.

Kim Kardashian still respects O.J. Simpson's kids

Appearing on David Letterman's My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Kim Kardashian spoke frankly about many memories surrounding the O.J. Simpson case. Yet, while Kardashian recalled everything from the football star calling her house from jail, to skipping school to hear the reading of the verdict, there was one thing the reality star declined to comment on: whether she thought Simpson committed the crime or not.

"I've never expressed how I felt about that because I just respect his children," Kardashian explained to Letterman. "If I were to say something, that would hurt someone's feelings publicly, unless they're coming for me and I have to defend myself or a family member, I'm aware," she continued to applause.

Kardashian is certainly right about that. She has defended husband Kanye West against everyone from Twitter trolls to Taylor Swift, and clapped back at one-time friend Lindsey Lohan after a perceived rude comment on an Instagram post. Still, her relationship with the Simpson family predates any of these other instances, so even if Kris Jenner has made her stance clear, don't expect Kim Kardashian to open up about it any time soon.
