The Tragic Death Of 90 Day Fiance Star Armando Rubio's Wife
The second season of TLC's 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way made history by casting the franchise's first male gay couple, Florida-based Kenneth Niedermeier and Mexico native Armando Rubio. According to Entertainment Tonight, the couple met in an online support group for gay fathers. Kenneth has four adult children and a grandchild, while Armando has a young daughter. The series shows Kenneth traveling all the way to Mexico so they can start a life together.
The couple knew that some of the feedback they would receive from the show might not be the most positive. That said, Kenneth and Armando wanted to help others who may be trying to come to terms with their own sexuality. "It's amazing to show people that two men can love each other and have a great life together," Kenneth told ET. On 90 Day Fiancé, Armando is seen struggling with his sexuality, primarily because his parents were not fully supportive. However, Armando's family has been an enormous support system for him since his wife passed, especially in helping care for his young daughter Hannah.
During his time on the series, Armando did not go into detail about his backstory, specifically regarding his marriage and his ex-wife's death. In the Season 2 premiere, he attributed their split to him coming out. But after filming, he decided it was time to share more information about the marriage. Armando Rubio's ex-wife struggled with 'anger issues'
To help squash rumors and fan theories, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Armando Rubio took to social media to share details on what happened to his ex-wife. In an Instagram Story (via In Touch Weekly), Armando revealed that the couple separated, in part, due to her ongoing "anger issues." He said that one evening, the estranged couple fought over finances during their divorce proceedings. Armando chose not to continue fighting and got in his car to drive home.
"I was driving down the highway and I was shocked when I was suddenly struck from behind and then was hit again," Armando wrote. It took a minute to process that his ex was ramming her car into his. Sadly, he said, "Before I knew it she lost control of her vehicle and passed away on the scene."
What made this tragedy more heartbreaking was that his ex-wife was pregnant at the time of the accident, and the baby did not survive the crash. Of the experience, Armando explained, "This was a very difficult time for all involved, myself, our family, and friends, and had been a long grieving process." He asked fans for "empathy and understanding on this personal tragedy." Hopefully, with Kenneth's support, Armando and his daughter will be able to fully move on from this horrible tragedy and focus on the future.
