Why Meghan Trainor Chose A Christmas Theme For Her Wedding

It's the most wonderful time of the year, especially for singer Meghan Trainor.

Not only has Trainor's Christmas album, A Very Trainor Christmas, been blowing up the music charts during the 2020 Christmas season, but the holidays have been extra special for the expecting mom literally since day one. Trainor told GQ, "My birthday is Dec. 22 so I am a Christmas baby."

But ever since 2017, that date has held even more special meaning outside of her birthday. That year, on her 24th birthday, the "All About That Bass" singer got engaged to Spy Kids actor Daryl Sabara. In true Trainor fashion, the engagement had a Christmas theme. The singer posted about it on her Instagram writing, "For my 24th birthday, the love of my life @darylsabara made all of my dreams come true. He proposed to me under a tunnel of beautiful Christmas lights and surprised me with my family and friends."

In 2018, Dec. 22 became another cause for celebration, as it was the day that Trainor and Sabara tied the knot in, of course, a Christmas-themed wedding.

Meghan Trainor had a winter wedding because Christmas is her favorite

Singer Meghan Trainor always knew she would want a winter wedding during the holidays. The Voice UK coach told ET in 2018 that Christmastime is what they chose, because it's "my favorite, and it's my birthday." And that's exactly what she and now-husband Daryl Sabara did on Dec. 22, 2018.

The two tied the knot amid several twinkling Christmas lights in the backyard of their California home. Trainor told GQ in December 2020, "I've always been obsessed with the holidays. My wedding was on my birthday as well, and it was a whole Christmas theme."

While the holidays and her birthday may be Trainor's favorites, at one point the singer entertained another theme for her wedding. Trainor told ET in June 2018 that she originally had a backyard BBQ in mind. "We might just chill and have like a barbecue," she said. The singer later changed the theme to Christmas, not only for the special meaning of the date, but also because she said it's "nice and cold, so that when we dance and get sweaty we can, like, cool off."

Her wedding day ended up being "the best birthday ever" for Trainor, who posted that caption on her Instagram with a photo showing off her wedding gown.

If you can't get enough of the holiday-themed wedding, you can relive it every Christmas by watching Trainor's music video for "Marry Me," which features actual footage from the big day.
