The Truth About The Tom Cruise And Elisabeth Moss Engagement Rumors

There is nothing more exciting than when two super talented A-list stars get engaged. However, that was never the case for Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss and veteran movie star Tom Cruise. While the two actors are connected through their practice of Scientology, Moss denied rumors that there ever was a romance between the stars despite certain tabloids reporting that the two were once engaged.

The Invisible Man star addressed the rumors on Watch What Happens Live, saying "I actually was confused and also mainly got texts from people being like, 'I didn't know, why didn't you tell me?'" She continued to laugh off the engagement rumors, adding, "Just confusion from my friends, but mainly poking fun at it because obviously they knew that it wasn't true." Even host Andy Cohen joked about the fake betrothal saying, "Oh my god, I would've been so excited for you, I would've DMed you."

Moss, who was previously married to Saturday Night Live alum Fred Armisen, does have a boyfriend, however. She gushed to Marie Claire about going to Toronto sports games with him, saying "I go with a special someone who also likes the Raptors and the Leafs. He shall remain nameless."

But, since that nameless man was not Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise, how did those engagement rumors start?

Engagement rumors began to fly when Tom Cruise was caught with a mystery blonde

Rumors that Mad Men actress Elisabeth Moss was engaged to Vanilla Sky star Tom Cruise blew up when a magazine ran a cover story about the two dating, along with a photo of Cruise canoodling a blonde who was suggested to be Moss. Gossip Cop noted that, in that OK! Magazine story, a source reported, "Elisabeth has known Tom forever because they both belong to the Church of Scientology. But early last year, she told a friend a shocking secret: She's always had a crush on him. She had no idea word would get back to Tom and it would bring them together."

However, the actress not only debunked that story, but also the photo of the woman who appeared to be her. She said on Watch What Happens Live, "I saw it on the cover of one of the gossip magazines and I was like, 'I've never had that haircut. It was supposed to be a picture of the two of us and I was like, 'I've never styled my hair like that.' It's clearly not me." Cruise has since been linked to another leading lady, his Mission Impossible 7 co-star Hayley Atwell.

As for Moss, she was just happy to finally lay the rumor to rest, but her Invisible Man co-star Aldis Hodge made a good point, telling her "you know you've made it when people are making up who you're marrying." We agree! A girl could do worse than a phony engagement to Tom Cruise!
