Everything We Know About Dr. Dre's Hospitalization

For music mogul Dr. Dre, 2020 was an emotional struggle as he and his wife of 24 years, Nicole Young, filed for divorce on June 29, 2020. Yet, while the ensuing financial battle has likely given the notorious rapper a metaphorical headache — Young wants a judge to throw out their prenuptial agreement and grant her $2 million per month in spousal support — Dr. Dre's figurative issues became literal when the "Forgot About Dre" rapper was admitted to the ICU after suffering a brain aneurysm on Jan. 4, 2021, TMZ reports.

While Dr. Dre's team has yet to confirm his medical condition at the time of this writing, sources told TMZ that the "No Diggity" rapper was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. TMZ claims that sources with "direct knowledge" of Dr. Dre's situation said he "suffered the aneurysm Monday and was rushed by ambulance to Cedars and was taken directly to ICU, where he remains Tuesday."

Now, as details of Dr. Dre's current status begin to trickle down to the media, his friends and contemporaries have taken to social media to share their well wishes, prayers, and concerns for the "Straight Outta Compton" legend.

LL Cool J offered an update on Dr. Dre's medical condition

After social media caught wind of the news that rapper Dr. Dre had reportedly been admitted to an L.A. intensive care unit, other notable names from the hip hop industry took to Twitter to share their reactions to his condition.

Ice Cube was quick to encourage fans to "[s]end your love and prayers to the homie Dr. Dre" alongside a image of the two men embracing at Ice Cube's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. Charlie Puth shared his prayers for Dr. Dre, too, adding, "You are the reason why I produce music." Missy Elliott echoed the sentiment, writing, "Prayers up for Dr. Dre and his family for healing & Strength over his mind & body."

Fans also shared their love for the legend, with one user writing, "reading what happened to Dr Dre and i exclaimed 'Oh my God'. legend, icon; hope he recovers well." Another fan added, "Dr. Dre played a significant role in my childhood and influencing me to explore music production. Praying for a speedy recovery!"

While neither Dr. Dre's representative nor his family, including his daughter Truly Young, has commented on his health as of this writing, fellow rapper LL Cool J offered an unexpected (but hopefully accurate) update on Dr. Dre's recovery. "Dre is recovering nicely," he tweeted. While the public remains in the dark about the details on Dr. Dre's diagnosis and prognosis, we wish the legendary icon nothing but the best on his road to recovery.

Dr. Dre sent out a hopeful message to his fans following his hospitalization

On Jan. 5, 2021, Page Six reported that the cause of rapper Dr. Dre's hospitalization was a brain aneurysm, which they purportedly confirmed with an anonymous insider. Per the tabloid, the unnamed source confirmed that the diagnosis had been reached after Dre underwent a series of tests to identify the cause of his medical issue, which was not known when the rapper was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Jan. 4, 2021. As of this writing, it is not clear what caused the aneurysm.

On Jan. 6, 2021, TMZ reported that Dre was "in stable condition and ... lucid." This was evidenced by Dre himself when the rapper took to Instagram with a post to assuage his concerned fanbase. "Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes," the iconic rapper wrote in the post. "I'm doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!"

Dr. Dre's home was almost burglarized during his hospitalization

While news of Dr. Dre's stable condition following a brain aneurysm quelled the fears of fans who were worried about the hip-hop giant, others unfortunately took the medical emergency and subsequent hospitalization as a moment of opportunity. On Jan. 6, 2021, TMZ reported that four men were caught on Dr. Dre's property attempting to rob his estate, seemingly assuming that due to its vacancy, it would make an easy target.

Alleging that the would-be burglars were tipped off by TMZ's own report on Dr. Dre's hospitalization, the outlet reported that the four men — who, as of this writing, have yet to all be publicly identified — attempted to break into the rapper's home but were detected by Dre's security team. Per TMZ, the authorities were alerted by security who apprehended the four men in the early hours of Jan. 6, 2021.

We at Nicki Swift would like to send Dr. Dre our best wishes for a speedy recovery, with the hopes that others (especially would-be burglars) will respect the privacy of Dre and his family at this time.
