Why Tom Cruise Is Making His Film Crew Upset

Tom Cruise is an A-list celeb at the head of long-term movie franchises like Mission: Impossible, but he isn't exactly immune to making headlines about his alleged on-set behavior. The latest? A report published by The Sun on Jan. 30, 2021 (via Page Six) claims that staff on the franchise's seventh film are finding Cruise difficult to work with amid coronavirus pandemic lockdowns and travel restrictions.

An anonymous crew member cited by the outlet explained, "A lot of us would love to cut our losses and leave things for a while, then pick up when we can. But Tom is completely obsessed with finishing and nothing will stop him." They continued, "He's the most determined person. It's impressive, but a nightmare."

It's worth noting that this isn't the only movie where Cruise's allegedly overbearing control has caused problems. Variety reported back in 2017 that The Mummy reboot was a "textbook case of a movie star run amok." The movie bombed at the United States box office, and Cruise "exter[ing] nearly complete creative oversight" was supposedly to blame. Yikes! "I don't just make a movie," the outlet cited Cruise as once admitting. "I give it everything I have and I expect it from everyone also."

Tom Cruise has created Mission: Impossible headlines before

Readers may recall that Tom Cruise previously lashed out at members of the Mission: Impossible 7 crew in December 2020. At the time, audio leaked to The U.S. Sun of the movie star unleashing a profanity-filled rage on set after he saw crew members who were not social distancing amid the global pandemic. The epic meltdown went viral, with the Top Gun star saying in part, "We are not shutting this f**king movie down. Is it understood? If I see it again, you're f**king gone."

It might be safe to assume that morale on the Mission: Impossible set was low after Cruise's headline-making rant, so the latest reports about the seventh film in the action franchise are troubling. But the film is unfortunately facing other problems. According to The Sun's latest report (via Page Six), members of the crew are reportedly concerned about being stranded as the production moves from the Britain to the Middle East, as many countries are continuing to close borders and ban international flights to stop the spread of COVID-19. "Now many of the production team — especially the more junior staff who aren't on big salaries — are up in arms and just want to go home," the source claimed.
