Why Jennifer Coolidge Once Lied About Having An Identical Twin
Actors pretend to be other people for a living, so it's no wonder that Legally Blonde and American Pie actor Jennifer Coolidge once pretended to have an identical twin — and actually pulled it off for a while. In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Promising Young Woman star explained how (and why) she once lied about having an identical twin.
It's the sort of low-stakes grift most people might joke about attempting one day, but which few actually manage to successfully execute.
On the show, Clarkson asked Coolidge how she was enjoying her time in Hawaii, to which Coolidge responded she'd had some "crazy" times in the sunny state in the past. "Well, that's a set up!" Clarkson exclaimed, and begged the actress to explain what she meant.
Coolidge explained, "Well, when ... you're alone on vacation alone you can kind of create anything you want."

Jennifer Coolidge says when you're young you can get away with 'anything'
As a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jennifer Coolidge revealed that she once lied about having a twin sister while on vacation in Hawaii.
She explained: "I ended up meeting these two guys that were best friends and I liked them both and so I told them that I had an identical twin. And so I dated both guys."
Kelly Clarkson spoke for everyone when she bent back her head and covered her face in stunned amusement. Coolidge said she kept this up for two weeks. "That seems exhausting!" Clarkson replied.
While she said she isn't sure if she'd "have the guts to do that now," Coolidge remarked that, at the time, it was a great decision. "When you're younger you can get away with anything."
Clarkson also said, "I wanna see that movie." That's a cue for Hollywood screenwriters to get to work!
