The Real Reason Mariah Carey Is Getting Sued By Her Sister
Pop icon Mariah Carey is singing a new tune in the midst of a sibling feud! While the beloved star found herself in the spotlight in early 2021 for her new remix EP and for publicly sending Oprah Winfrey well wishes on her birthday, Carey now has some troubling news to face: her older sister, Alison Carey, is suing her for $1.25 million, according to TMZ.
Mariah has had her ups and downs over the years. The "Always Be My Baby" crooner has been accused of lip syncing and had fans worried over her well-being in 2017. Yet, 2020 was the year of Mariah! Her comeback — 15 years after her hit album The Emancipation of Mimi dropped — was applauded by fellow celebrities and critics alike. Then, Mariah's tell-all memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, quickly became a bestseller, and is slated to be adapted for the screen, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Mariah Carey's sister denies memoir claims
Mariah Carey may have more trouble at home. Her sister Alison Carey, who describes herself as "profoundly damaged," filed a lawsuit against the "All I Want For Christmas" singer. Alison claims that she was humiliated by Mariah spilling their family secrets in her memoir, per Page Six. Mariah's book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, was published in September 2020, and included a chapter in which Mariah claims Alison drugged her with Valium as a child and tried to "pimp her out" before throwing boiling water on her, resulting in third-degree burns, as reported by TMZ. Mariah was 12 years old at the time and Alison was 20.
Alison alleges that both Carey sisters were victims of their mother's abuse, including satanic rituals and sexual favors from a young age, per The Independent. Alison, who also suffered a brain injury after a 2015 home invasion, argues that her sister is now exposing their shared childhood trauma for money.
According to Page Six, Alison plans to represent herself in her case against Mariah. She is seeking $1.25 million due to "intentional infliction of immense emotional distress caused by the defendant's heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation of defendant's already profoundly damaged older sister," the court document reads. Who knows what will happen when the Carey sisters finally face the music.
