Inside Jeezy's Announcement About Losing His Mother

Despite Jeezy's poised exterior, there is nothing that is more painful than the loss of a mother. The "Soul Survivor" rapper showed us a vulnerable side in his emotional Instagram tribute to his late mother Sandra Rose in February 2021. Jeezy shared a photo from her funeral and an old video of her singing. "You taught me to be a man when I was a boy. Made me man up be a father when I was a kid. Raised me to be a natural born leader when I was lost," he began the post. "You lifted me when I was down. Inspired me when I had no inspiration. Always told me I was Bigger than my circumstances." The Atlanta native called his mother his "superhero," mentioning how fearless she was and how she was "one of the only people in the world I could trust." To close out the sweet message, Jeezy promised to "continue to make [her] proud."

Jeezy's fans and loved ones sent their condolences to the rapper, including his fiancee Jeannie Mai. "An unbelievably strong Queen who created a beautiful family of LOVE," the The Real co-host commented. "I am thankful to experience her life on earth everyday through you Jay." Despite their complicated relationship, Jeezy expressed how grateful he was that she was able to see the man she raised. Read on to find out more about Jeezy's relationship with his mom.

Jeezy and his mother had a unique relationship

Jeezy and his mother Sandra Rose weren't always close in his early years, but their relationship grew better over time. In a November 2011 interview, Jeezy revealed he left home at the age of 11 to sell drugs out of his grandma's house. Additionally, the rapper left due to Rose battling a drug addiction. Jeezy told Rolling Stone, "I served my uncles, I served my family. I whooped my uncles for stealing my s**t." However, the "reality check" for Jeezy was seeing his mother living at a crackhouse. "You think it's your way out [of the trap], but it's taking your mama out."

Since then, Jeezy and his mother had rekindled their relationship with one another. In an MTV interview, the rapper said finding out about Rose's drug use was "one of the most vulnerable times" he's ever experienced. "I was proud, man," he told Sway Calloway at the time. "It was painful, but at the same time, it taught me a valuable lesson in life. People can be the way they are, but as long as they're willing to change — that's what you've got to look at." Rose's cause of death remains unclear as of this post. However, Jeezy previously revealed his mother's undisclosed health issues in an August 2019 interview with The Breakfast Club. We send our condolences to Jeezy and his loved ones at this time.
