Inside Alex Rodriguez's Heartbreaking Instagram Video After Jennifer Lopez Breakup

Alex Rodriguez is having the breakup blues. The former slugger and Jennifer Lopez announced on April 15, 2021 that they had called it quits after prematurely getting back together in March. "We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects," the couple said in a joint statement to the Today show. "We wish the best for each other and one another's children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support."

The announcement came after Rodriguez flew to the Dominican Republic in March to spend time with Lopez after sources revealed that they had called off their engagement and were "working through some things," as they noted (via People). The couple began dating in 2017 and got engaged in 2019, but their love was not meant to be, and Rodriguez is making his feelings about their split known on Instagram.

Alex Rodriguez gives a tribute to Jennifer Lopez after calling off their engagement

Hours before issuing a joint statement about their split, Alex Rodriguez reminisced about what could have been in a video tribute to Jennifer Lopez on his Instagram story. In the video, which was captured by a Twitter user, Rodriguez could be seen showing off several framed photos of him and Lopez on his Instagram story. He also tagged Lopez's Instagram account in a blue heart emoji while Coldplay's "Fix You" played in the background.

The clip showed a photo of him and Lopez embracing, a photo of their children from previous marriages, and a photo of the couple's name written in the sand inside a heart. Rodriguez's camera lingered longingly at the photo of their names drawn in the sand before he uploaded the video his Instagram. It's unclear whether or not he deleted the video or it expired.

Rodriguez's heartbreaking gesture came after Lopez had been suspiciously quiet about him on her own Instagram. The last photo Lopez posted of them together was in February 2021. As of this writing, Lopez has yet to address the split (or the tribute) on her social media accounts.
