The Truth About Anuel AA

Reggaeton and Latin trap artist Anuel AA (whose real name is Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago) has been dominating the charts over the past few years and has teamed up with some of music's biggest names. Along with working with his contemporaries — Bad Bunny, Manuel Turizo, and Ozuna — he has also bagged collabs with a number of legends, including Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, and Daddy Yankee.

Born on November 26, 1992, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, the "Me Gusta" hitmaker studied at the Colegio María Auxiliadora, according to Famous Birthdays. Being the small world that it is, one of his classmates was fellow Latin musician Rauw Alejandro. As reported by The Famous People, Anuel took interest in music in his early teens and always had connections to the industry as his father, José Gazmey, was the vice president of the A&R department of Sony Music. As of this writing, Anuel has released three studio albums since 2018, two of which have entered the top 10 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

Along with the platinum plaques and chart-topping singles, Anuel's personal life has also been a topic of discussion. Here's what we know about his romantic entanglements.

Anuel AA was engaged to Karol G

Anuel AA formed a relationship with Colombian singer Karol G soon after the pair collaborated on the song "Culpables" in 2018. According to Billboard, the duo first met on the set of the video and revealed to the world they were dating that same year on Anuel's 26th birthday. Less than a year later, Karol took to Instagram to announce she had gotten engaged to the "Antes" hitmaker on July 3, 2019.

As previously reported by Billboard, Anuel revealed in 2021 that he and Karol had split up after three years. "The truth is that we're not together," he informed fans on Instagram Live on April 20. "The times that people have seen us together is because we still love each other. We tried to recover what was lost, but we took our different paths. May God bless her and that she continues to achieve her dreams and goals." There was speculation that one of them may have been unfaithful within the relationship. Anuel shut down those rumors and stated: "There's no negativity between us. We have a great relationship."

In a now-deleted Instagram Story, Karol had nothing but love for her ex. "The incredible things that happened to us as people and artists was a blessing and the result of a beautiful love that arrived in our lives when we most needed it," she wrote, adding, "I love you, Emmanuel, my gratitude towards you, your family, and everything we lived, grew, and learned together is infinite."
