The Real Meaning Behind NEEDTOBREATHE And Carrie Underwood's 'I Wanna Remember'

There's arguably nothing fans love more than a good collaboration between two of their favorite artists. Just look at Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé's "Savage" remix or BTS and Halsey's "Boy With Luv." Both musical collabs found massive success and dominated the charts for weeks in 2020 and 2019, respectively. In 2021, Carrie Underwood and country rock band NEEDTOBREATHE released their own collaboration that's quickly become a hit song.

The band — comprised of Bear Rinehart, Seth Bolt, Josh Lovelace, Randall Harris, and Tyler Burkum — teamed up with the "American Idol" winner on the track "I Wanna Remember," one of 12 songs on NEEDTOBREATHE's forthcoming new album "Into the Mystery," due out on July 30 (per Billbaord). In a statement, the country stars expressed how excited they were to perform with Underwood, telling CMT of the music video's shoot, "It was actually the first time we had ever played the song together with Carrie so we were equal parts excited and nervous. She is the ultimate pro and made the video shoot easy and super fun."

Keep scrolling to find out the real meaning behind "I Wanna Remember," which Underwood and NEEDTOBREATHE will perform live at the CMT Awards June 9.

'I Wanna Remember' is meant to take you back to moments from your past

NEEDTOBREATHE and Carrie Underwood's "I Wanna Remember" is described as "a nostalgic track and takes you back to the moments you never want to forget." The band said in a press release (via Billboard), "We all came from small towns, and those roots have cemented into the fabric of the band and our music." They added, "We felt like [Underwood's] small town roots and humble beginnings were the perfect addition to this song."

On the song, the country superstar sings (per Genius), "The night is clear / All of the stars out in the atmosphere / Wishing that they were you and me right here / They're showing off for us / I don't wanna forget it," before belting the chorus with NEEDTOBREATHE frontman Bear Rinehart.

The band also shared the meaning behind the track, telling CMT it's about life's fleetingness. "Moments are here and then they are gone in an instant. We hope this song can be a soundtrack to some epic life moments for people in all walks of life," they said. "Whether it's walking down the aisle for your wedding, graduating college, or crossing something off the bucket list, we'd be honored if 'I Wanna Remember' was a part of it."
