Over 38% Of People Said This Royal Family Member Is Their Least Favorite

Plenty of Americans are obsessed with the British monarchy. As a result, many Americans see the Windsors more as celebrities rather than heads of state. However, since Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, the number of Americans obsessed with the royal family has increased. According to CNN, "17 million people in the U.S. tuned in to watch Prince Harry and Meghan's much-talked-about interview with Oprah." To see how royal fans really felt, in a 2021 survey, Nicki Swift asked 601 readers in the United States to determine which royal family member was their least favorite.

As far as least favorite royal family members, Prince Andrew is likely at the top of the list. Queen Elizabeth's second-oldest son had to step back from his royal duties due to his involvement with convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein. Another member of the list of unpopular royals is Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew. But for this poll, we focused on Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

Due to the popularity of "The Crown" on Netflix, more people are familiar with the shoddy way Prince Charles behaved during his marriage to Princess Diana. In addition, since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah, Charles' reputation has taken a hit, per Insider. And, of course, plenty of fans aren't happy with Harry and Meghan for leaving the royal family. Keep reading to find out which member of the British royal family is our readers' least favorite!

Prince Charles is the least popular member of the royal family

Nicki Swift readers voted Prince Charles as their least favorite Royal family member by a large margin — a full 38.44% of our U.S.-based readers picked the next man who will sit on the British throne.

It appears that our readers agree with our cousins across the pond. A 2021 Newsweek survey of British citizens revealed that most British people would prefer Prince William to be the next king instead of Prince Charles! According to Newsweek, "The Duke of Cambridge is more popular than his father with a net approval rating of +52%  compared to +20% for the Prince of Wales." Yikes!

Queen Elizabeth received 12.65% of the survey votes. Readers voted Prince William and Prince Harry very close together, with The Duke of Cambridge getting 11.98% and the Duke of Sussex getting 11.15% of the votes. Finally, Nicki Swift readers voted Kate Middleton as one of the most popular royals. The Duchess of Cambridge only received 5.32% of the votes in the survey of the least popular member of the royal family.
