So Freakin Cheap Season 2 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far

Like "Extreme Couponing" and "Extreme Cheapskates," TLC's "So Freakin Cheap" follows people who stop at absolutely nothing to save an extra buck or two. This show follows four families who go to extreme lengths to stay frugal, like dumpster diving, washing clothes in a river, and even telling their children they share a birthday to save on having multiple celebrations, according to Distractify. One family even tries to plan an entire wedding for less than $750!

Like most TLC shows, "So Freakin Cheap" gave fans a glimpse at people living unusual lives and left the fans begging for more. One Reddit user claimed they got hooked after just eight minutes of the first episode. "I am here for this s*** show," they wrote. Now that the first season has come and gone, we're left wondering when we will be graced with Season 2. Here is everything we know so far about Season 2 of "So Freakin Cheap."

When does Season 2 come out?

According to TV Shows Ace, there is no confirmed premiere date for Season 2 of "So Freakin Cheap." This is not surprising, as Season 1 only just finished airing, per IMDb. Season 1 premiered on June 28 and ended on August 2, airing a total of six episodes. Each episode aired on a Monday, and each episode's title is a play off of a popular song, like "Cheap Child O' Mine," "Rolling in the Cheap," and "Smells Like Cheap Spirit."

TV Shows Ace claims that most TLC shows air about a year after they're filmed, so it likely won't be until at least summer 2022 that we'll see Season 2 of "So Freakin Cheap" — if it's renewed. But if the show does return, it will likely be announced just a few weeks before the premiere date. If they can find more families to feature on the show, perhaps it could even last longer than six episodes.

Who will be on the cast?

If other TLC shows are any indicator, Season 2's cast of "So Freakin Cheap" would likely feature cast members from Season 1 alongside some newbies. According to TV Shows Ace, the four families featured on Season 1 were the Tran family from Orlando, Florida, the Watson family from Mesa, Arizona, the Guiles family from Minoa, New York, and the Clayton family from Stonecrest, Georgia.

The Watsons were actually featured on "Extreme Cheapskates," when mom Shelley aimed to throw her daughter Ashley's wedding for under $1,000, and did so by throwing it in a high school gymnasium. This time, Shelley is planning another wedding, and her budget is even lower: just $750, per Distractify. Instead of a high school gymnasium, Shelley suggests that her daughter Brittney get married in a chiropractor's office. "This is too much for me," Brittney said on the show. "I am tired of not having an opinion about my own wedding."

Is it real?

Like many reality shows, "So Freakin Cheap" has people wondering just how much of it, if any, is real. The subreddit dedicated to the show is full of posts questioning its authenticity. "This can't be real," one post reads. "So Freaking Fake," reads another.

It's worth noting that in 2013 a woman named Melody Rose Gravitt, who was featured on "Extreme Cheapskates," revealed to her local newspaper Enid News & Eagle that "90% of the things they said are not true." For example, they showed her using a newspaper as toilet paper, which she said she does not actually do. "Extreme Cheapskates" producers seemingly got caught red-handed once again in 2020, when a Reddit post claimed that Christina Oster, a contestant on "Worst Cooks in America," previously appeared on "Extreme Cheapskates" under the name Kia Campbridge. Oster's profile on StaffMeUp, a LinkedIn-type website for the film industry, confirms that she "Wrote character/story ideas for and performed as talent on 'The Steve Harvey Show,' TLC's 'Extreme Cheapskates,' & The Food Network's 'Worst Cooks in America.'"

Given that the Watsons also appeared on "Extreme Cheapskates," it begins to raise questions about just how real any of these situations actually were. With alleged proof "Extreme Cheapskates" was staged, "So Freakin Cheap" may not be exactly what it seems.
