The Real Reason Mama June And Geno Doak Split

Mama June of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" fame has been on one hell of a ride. Her spin-off show "Mama June: From Not to Hot" chronicled her dramatic weight-loss journey as she lost more than 100 pounds and got a gastric sleeve, per The Sun. The same outlet reported last year that she may have gained 60 pounds or more back. Granted, her weight is no one's business but her own.

This March, Mama June opened up to Access Hollywood about her struggle with addiction, revealing that she and her partner Geno Doak spent $900,000 on drugs in one year. "So much money was sent to our dope man," she said. During the interview, she revealed that a late payment of $15,000 drove her to enter rehab. "I went into rehab with $1.75 to my name, and I came out with nothing," she said.

Mama June revealed in August that she and Geno were no longer together following him being sentenced to 16 months. "Listen, Geno is not in the f**kin' picture," she said in an Instagram Live captured by TMZ. Now it's been revealed exactly why the couple split.

Geno Doak refused to get sober

TMZ reported that Mama June and Geno Doak's breakup was completely about sobriety. After leaving rehab, Mama June was committed to staying sober. Geno, apparently not so much. While Mama June abstained from any drugs or alcohol, Geno reportedly wouldn't stop drinking. Mama June then began seeing somebody else, which hit Geno hard. Sources close to the former couple told TMZ, "Geno felt like June pulled the rug out from under him and took the breakup very hard." His adverse reaction to the breakup is reportedly what sent him to the hospital in Florida before entering rehab in South Carolina.

According to TMZ, Geno will enter a long-term inpatient program for at least 120 days, with the option to stay up to a year. He had previously been sentenced to 16 months, but failed to comply with the terms of his probation. Geno was supposed to relocate from Florida to Alabama within 30 to 45 days of his sentencing date, but did not do so. A bench warrant for Geno has since been issued in Alabama since he checked into rehab, TMZ noted in a separate report.

Mama June's addiction took a toll on her family

Back in 2019, Mama June and Geno Doak were arrested at a gas station in Alabama for possession of crack cocaine, along with a needle and pipe, per TMZ. Mama June's addiction took a toll not just on herself, but on her relationships with her children as well. "My kids stopped talking to me," she revealed in an interview with Access Hollywood back in March.

In June, though, Page Six reported Mama June reunited with all four of her daughters for the first time in six years. Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell had been estranged from her mother, having sued her in 2015 for $300,000, claiming she and her daughter Kaitlyn had not been paid for appearing on "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." But the mother and daughter reunited for Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird's baby shower. Mama June told Page Six that seeing Anna, her oldest daughter, again was "great." ""She is still with the same boyfriend and it was a little weird to see them," Mama June added. "But I did what I call 'roll call' with all the girls being there."

Mama June's daughter Lauryn is eight months pregnant with a baby boy who will be named Bentley. "I'm still trying to process that Pumpkin is having a boy and what we are going to do with a boy," she said. "In my family, I only have girls, so we all are going to be learning how to take care of a boy."
