Naked And Afraid Season 14 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far
"Naked and Afraid" is one of the most revealing and intriguing reality shows of the past decade. The show, which focuses on nudity and fear, has been a hit with audiences since it premiered on Discovery in 2013. According to Entertainment Weekly, "Naked and Afraid" drew in 3.62 million viewers when it first premiered, and viewership has remained steady throughout the years (via Rating Graph).
The show's premise is quite simple: A man and a woman meet in the wilderness. Unlike "Alaskan Bush People" or other survival shows, contestants on "Naked and Afraid" have no gear, no hiking equipment, furniture or cookware, or filtered water — just their naked bodies, their minds, and one special item they brought with them on their survivalist journey. In a 2013 interview with Salon, executive producer Denise Contis referred to the series as "the quintessential survival show, where [contestants] really have to rely on their body and their brain to survive, and potentially thrive."
With 13 seasons in the books, fans are hoping that Discovery will continue to showcase the will power of survivalists with another season. Keep scrolling to find out the details about the fourteenth season of "Naked and Afraid" below.
When will Naked and Afraid Season 14 be released?
As of writing, Discovery has not announced a release date for a fourteenth season of "Naked and Afraid." Additionally, Premiere Date reports that Discovery has not officially renewed the show for another season, but that a renewal could come soon.
Discovery's silence on the future of "Naked and Afraid" isn't too out of the ordinary, as Season 13 only ended this past September, and filming for the next season might not have begun yet. Furthermore, past seasons of "Naked and Afraid" have cycled between spring and summer releases, and it's possible that Discovery will announce a new season in early or late 2022. However, Discovery also may be looking to fully transition "Naked and Afraid" into a dating show.
In May, The Wrap reported that Discovery ordered a reality dating show based on "Naked and Afraid" called "Naked and Afraid of Love." The series began airing on Discovery+ in late August and has already been renewed for a second season, per Deadline, indicating the network is confident about the show's ratings and performance. While the future of "Naked and Afraid" is uncertain, here's hoping that both shows can thrive under the network.
Who will be on Naked and Afraid Season 14?
As no release date for Season 14 has been announced for "Naked and Afraid," there are no details about who will be featured on the show. However, it's not unlikely that Discovery will pick some familiar faces from previous spinoffs. Per Extra, Season 13 featured Fernando Calderon and Dani Beauchemin, who appeared on Discovery's "Naked and Afraid XL." Discovery could also pick ordinary contestants as they've done in the past. However, production on the show should be mindful of featuring fully clothed people when the show returns, as viewers have been quick to catch blunders.
Decider reported that viewers who tuned into the premiere episode of Season 13 noticed that there was a fully clothed person situated in the background while contestants — Lynsey and Darvil — were hunting for food among baboons and hyenas. The person caught on camera was also holding a rifle, which scared audiences. "I just started to hate #NakedAndAfraid," one viewer wrote on Twitter after pointing out the blunder. "What's up with this? You have to tell Security to stay out the shot."
Although casting for Season 14 is still a mystery, potential survivalists will be glad to know that the show will protect them with armed members against wild animals during filming.
What locations will we see on Naked and Afraid Season 14?
The objective of "Naked and Afraid" is to see which survivalist can withstand the harsh elements of being in the wild, so locations are extremely important within the context of the show. As of writing, a location for Season 14 has not been announced yet, but it would most likely be a place with alligators and creepy-crawlies galore.
Per People, "Naked and Afraid XL" previously filmed on location in a bayou in Louisiana, and according to a previous contestant, it was one of the hardest challenges he's ever faced. "The bayou of Louisiana was harder than any of the other locations I went to," Matt Wright said. "Everything about it was tough." Another "XL" star, Steven Lee Hall Jr., remarked that the wildlife there was extremely dangerous. "Everything in Louisiana wants to kill you," he said. "It was the hardest challenge of all of them that I faced."
When and if Discovery renews "Naked and Afraid" for Season 14, contestants had better prepare to survive in more dangerous locations than what was featured in previous seasons.
