Why Lori Loughlin Didn't Wear A Dress When She Married Her Husband

To say that Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli have had a tumultuous few years would be an understatement. The two served time in prison and home confinement following their involvement in the infamous college admission scandal. They pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges after being accused of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for their daughters' acceptances to the University of Southern California. Olivia Jade and Isabella got in as crew team recruits despite not having any experience in rowing.

Now that Loughlin and Giannulli are free, they have started making an effort to work on their marriage. In September, The Dirt reported the couple spent $13 million on a family vacation mansion located in Palm Desert, the second property they've procured in about a year. According to a source close to the couple, the two are looking for a fresh start, and this new home may just be the first step to normalcy. "They can start anew and work on their marriage together as the whole college scandal has taken a toll on both of them, as well as their marriage," the source told Us Weekly in April.

Being involved in a highly publicized scandal and getting incarcerated for it isn't something most couples face, including Hollywood ones. But if there's anything to know about Loughlin and Giannulli's relationship, it's anything but normal.

Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli eloped in case things don't work out

Both having been married before, Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli were understandably skeptical of entering another marriage, so they didn't have a typical Hollywood wedding. A far cry from a sponsor-filled day, they decided to elope on Thanksgiving Day of 1997 with a minister and only Giannulli's best friend as a witness. The best part? According to The Hollywood Reporter, they were just in their sweatpants and ski hats. "Moss and I had both been married before, so we thought, 'Well, it didn't really work out well for us the first time around, so maybe we'll elope and see how it goes and tell people,'" Loughlin told Entertainment Tonight in 2018.

In fact, their nuptials were so casual, that they actually forgot the date of their anniversary — but it wasn't their fault. In her interview with ET, Loughlin opened up about how her friend, Marilu Henner, made her realize the date they had been going by — November 25 —was wrong, and that Thanksgiving Day in 1997 was actually November 27. "She was right! And on my marriage certificate, they had written November 25 and that's what it says on my marriage license," she explained.

The two have now been married for over 20 years and have kept things pretty low-key — until the scandal rocked their whole family.

Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli are committed to their marriage

A messy scandal coupled with months in prison is enough to cause a huge rift in any relationship, but in the case of Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, they're as committed to their marriage as ever. Throughout the legal proceedings, an insider told People in 2019 that not once did they witness their partnership waver.

"There have been times since the scandal unfolded that they were very unhappy with each other. It's been a lot of stress for them both," once source shared. But despite this, the source said Loughlin always kept her faith in their relationship. "There's no question that they are a solid unit. They are on the same page. I've seen absolutely no indication of any problems with them, and I've seen them during some of the most stressful parts of the last few months," another said.

Now that they have been given the opportunity to fix things, Loughlin and Giannulli are not holding back to revive the romance. "They got to soak up the sun, pamper themselves ... but most of all they're thrilled because they've gotten their mojo back as a couple," a source told Us Weekly of the vacation the couple took post-prison. "They've been committed to each other throughout the prison ordeal, but it was definitely a buzzkill and romance had to take a back seat ... Now though, they've got a new lease on the marriage and a permanent smile on their faces!"
