Lily-Rose Depp Is Practically Her Mother's Twin

Before all of the dramatic and polarizing headlines involving his ex Amber Heard, Johnny Depp was in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis. While many people might not recognize her name, she is a superstar in her native France and a teen sensation thanks to her 1988 hit "Joe le Taxi." As with many ridiculously good-looking couples in the entertainment world, Johnny and Paradis fell in love and soon after had two children together: their daughter, Lily-Rose Depp and son, Jack Depp.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar back in 2012, Paradis said that she had hoped that her daughter would wait before finding her place in the spotlight. She said at the time, "Right now I hope she can wait, live her life, and be prepared. She sings a lot, which is great to build up her voice. But it's a very strange situation."

Needless to say, that didn't happen as the young Lily-Rose has managed to carve out a career for herself both on and off-screen. But that shouldn't surprise anyone seeing how she has her father's penchant for acting and her mother's beauty. In fact, a lot of fans on both sides of the ocean can't help but notice that Lily-Rose is the spitting image of her mother. Keep scrolling below to see for yourself.

Lily-Rose Depp and Vanessa Paradis have plenty in common

By now, most of Hollywood has noticed that Lily-Rose Depp looks exactly like her mother did at her age. But their chiseled cheekbones isn't the only thing they have in common. According to Vogue, the mother and daughter duo apparently have the same taste when it comes to Hollywood's leading men — with Paradis in a long-term relationship with Lily-Rose's father Johnny Depp until their breakup in 2012 and Lily-Rose's own high-profiled romance with Timothée Chalamet.

If that weren't enough, they've both modeled for Chanel, graced the covers of Vogue magazine, and made their mark in the entertainment world. But for Lily-Rose, she is focused on carving out her own self-identity. "As I've gotten older, I'm trying to focus more on who I am, and like, cultivating my brain and my knowledge. Being a smart person and a kind person is more important than being a beautiful person," she told The Face in an interview in 2019.

But as far as how she feels about her mother and the work she's done in the past as a model, singer, and actor, Lily-Rose couldn't be any more clear about what she thinks.

What does Lily-Rose think of her mother's career?

Vanessa Paradis stirred controversy when in 1991 she starred in a Coco Chanel fragrance ad as a young 19-year-old whistling to herself in a gilded cage. In 2019, Lily-Rose Depp starred in her own Christmas ad for Chanel, but it was nowhere near as controversial as her mother's.

Because of her image as a sexualized teen in the late 1980s, Paradis said she suffered from relentless bullying. Someone had spray painted obscenities on a wall next to her home while her peers pulled her hair at school and one woman even spat in her face. "I was going to school and I had the 'Joe le Taxi' song out that was making me trouble all over the world. It's not easy to grow up, but to grow up famous, it's worse. In France it became a really big phenomenon and it was very casual, this torturing of a child. It was happening to me every day relentless," she told the Independent.

But Lily-Rose sees her mother as someone who paved the way for the next generation of women. "People were truly horrible to her. It was a different time," she told The Face while recalling her mother's bullying, adding, "Women weren't as celebrated for being comfortable in their sexuality. My mum is a trailblazer, truly. She's taught me a lot about self-confidence."

Vanessa Paradis is happy about Lily-Rose Depp's career choices

Despite hoping her daughter would take some time before pursuing her own fame, Vanessa Paradis is very supportive of Lily-Rose Depp's modeling and acting decisions. "I'm really happy she's where she should be," Paradis told The Sunday Times in 2018. "She's very talented and makes great choices about what movies she does. She's pretty much made for the job," she explained.

Depp's smart decisions definitely include her fierce sense of privacy as she navigates the industry. During an interview on "The Drew Barrymore Show," the host complimented the young actor for keeping grounded on social media and guarding her personal life. "The value of privacy is something that's like been instilled in me from an early age," Depp explained, acknowledging the experience of growing up with very famous parents.

Depp may bear a striking resemblance to Paradis, both in appearance and career pursuits, but she is avoiding the difficulties her mother experienced in the public eye by setting boundaries. Depp has made it known that she's happy with seeming "boring" to the outside world. The "Wolf" actor has witnessed firsthand how the spotlight follows her parents' relationships and aims to keep her private life to herself. "The more you talk about it, the more you invite people in," Depp told The Face in 2019. "I don't talk about my family, I don't talk about my friends, I don't talk about what nail polish I have on my toes ... " she simply stated.
